Here's my Big Office System

AO just told me .... 100% tempered :(

Not quite sure where this will go from here.

I think everything survived the move with the exception of one tang. :( :(

Dude! I had to empty the old tank to catch that guy! The Tomisoni and a tenneti I once had are by far and away the fastest fish i've every kept. In general heniocus butterflies are the hardest to catch they move like fighter pilots. I used to say orchid dottybacks were the most difficult to catch, until i learned to scatter 1/2 PVC on the floor of the tank and just chase them to cover in the 1/2" pipes then scoop up the pipes! Easy Peasy!

Yeah, I hope we can work it out, I ordered a tank with out overflows specifically because I planned to drill the tank .....

Yeah, unfortunately, I was not aware that some large Deep Blue tanks are 100% tempered. Apperently, niether was AO. I'm in discussion with AO now about what we can do about it. Perhaps swap the Deep blue for a Perfecto? We'll see ....

Accoring to AO, the Perfectos are NOT tempered. However, if you drill it all warranties are off.

That's understandable I supose. So we are looking into swapping the DB for a Perfecto. Not my first choice, the DBs are just prettier tanks craftmanship wise. And less costly. Once into a Perfecto, for a few more dollars (Well about $200 more) I could order a GC tank and go 48 wide by 30 deep by 28 high to have about 180g in the DT.... Very tempting!

I would definitely go with the 30 deep tank. My 215 is 24" and I wish I had more space. My new tank is 30" deep and I can't wait to set it up. But than again, you would have to think about lighting. I'm really hoping that I can get away with 5 led's on my tank, being that its so wide.

I would love to go with a 30", I did kinda had commited to a 24" with my chief interior designer ...... but, if I can get most of my money back on the DB tank, I may push for the 30". I dont want to cause any design issues!

Hey Bax,
As you know I'm doing the same thing as you and when I did the math I found that its working out cheaper and in my best interest to go with glass cages and that's what I decided to do. I'm going to go 60X26X25 3/4" with the overflow on 1 end and regular glass. The tank is less than 1K delivered and I specified beveled edges all around. I'm going to start building my stand next week. L-Shaped with space for a custom frag tank and storage space underneath. Or calcium reactor or maybe top-off containers. I'm getting 1 1.5" drain and 2 return holes.

Tristan

I really thought about doing the GC tank in 30" deep. But, I don't want to draw heat from my exective interior designer! ;)

So I'm going to go with a Perfecto. I already have the GH 1500gph overflow kit. I feel the Deep Blue was better, "cleaner", construction, but my plans for trim work will cover the corners anyway.

Tristan, thanks for pointing out that the Deep Blues are tempered, that really would have been a bad deal if I started drilling on that puppy!
