The frog is in my fuge for the moment, I'll probably frag a small piece to go back into the 120 and hold the rest in the frag section ... when it is done
It's amazing to me, that a "mindless" organism can mount such a focused attack!
For months this froggy has been very large and when really inflated, the stags lower branches would e very close if not occasionally touched by the frogs polyps. If this condition would last very long there might be some impact to the stag but not the devastating stinging that has gone on recently. This is out and out attempted murder!
Essentially, as soon as the space below the main colony filled up with new growing heads, the frog felt cramped and went on the offensive.
Really, a very impressive show of survival skills. I have SPS that are touching that treat each other nicer. Although I've also seen a few pretty agressive contact issues with them as well! ... that's why I need a bigger tank! 8)
I miss the frog in the display. The tank is viewable from the left end, so anchoring that left front corner made him the first critter folks would ooh and aah over when the first saw the tank.
I pointed the return line down, turned off all the in tank circulation gizmos, the MHs are off the T5s are on and that really limited the angles I could get good pics from.
Nice...thanks for posting - gives inspiration for guys like me who stare at an empty tank...I still have to figure out the overflows/bulkheads for my 120... just haven't had time to make a stop at lowes.
Really nice photos. This is my favorite tank on NJRC at 120gallons. I have a 120 and it gives me alot of ideas and motivation. Thanks for posting. I think I need to start a new thread and continue my progress pics in that thread as well.
Hi Bax...Latest photos are great. I especially like the large purple piece (Stag?) in picture 3...Also, in the last pic, what are the 2 corals to the left and below the big purple coral?
The large piece in the 3rd pic is a pink & purple millie. I'll have to post a pic form just over 18 months ago when I got it, this guy grows fast! It's almost 10" across in the view you see. Started as an 1.5-2" frag!
The other two in the 4th pic are an a. nanna (to the left) and an a. gemmifera (to the right)below the nanna is a soliterentis (sp?)
I am really happy you all like the tank .. like I said, the family thinks I am nuts
What an absolutely GORGEOUS tank. Yes, I have tank envy, I admit it. :-[ After first reading about your froggy and then watching the video, I ran downstairs to closely watch my froggy, which has begun to throw out/up those arms. The first time I saw it do it, I thought it was just hungry, and gave it some food. But it's still doing it. I "think" I've got everything out of harm's way.....fingers are crossed.
Again, thanks so much for sharing all those beautiful pictures. Truly a magnificent setup.
I remember taking my Dad with me some 30+ years ago when I was looking to landscape my Tanganyikan Cichlid tank. I bought
some colorful large pieces of slate to build the caves required by these fish. When it came time to pay the bill, it totalled over $45.00. My Dad, and I'll never forget this, turned and looked at me as if I had just stepped off a spaceship in Times Square!!!! : Yeah, we are all nuts!!!! Who else coughs up several days' pay for rocks, live or otherwise!! : And how about
$40/50/60 for one inch frags (ie. broken pieces) of Aussie corals.
On the frog, I moved it to my frag/fuge, and at some point a heater popped off the wall and fell right into the froggy. It nearly wiped out four large heads. Fortunately they seam to be coming back. ... It's always something!

I've been a crispy critter for fish since I was 8. By the time I was 12, every flat surface in my mom's house had a fish tank on it. My folks were very patient. At 48, I find myself defending the hobby quite often. It's worth it!
Bax what do you use when placeing your SPS into the tank? Glue? or Apoxy? or something else? Also when you place your SPS how far apart did you originaly put them?
Your tank/pictures look great. Keep up the good work.
I like to mount them on plugs or small pieces of rock rubble. I try to place then no less that four inches apart, but given the limited relestate, that is not always possible.
I have a few pieces that get knocked off by flow sometimes. The blue tip stag is an example, always toppled over in its previous spot. I have been looking for a good glue that truely works underwater in the display and actually lasts in the tube for more than one use :
I really like the Boston reef glue, but the tip is gone in one application. I've taken to puncturing a new spot along the tube each time I need it. kinda messy, but it does work
