Great job on the feeder mount Paul. The new frag tank lights looks like it will work great too.

Progress is a beautiful thing, isn't it? (I'm now thinking to myself... time to start working on the stand again! ;) )

Algae Clip Holder

Out of site......The clutter of the algae clips laying around was bothering me....I have eight clips. I quickly found a solution with scrap acrylic and wood.

Screwed the acrylic strips to the wood with stainless steel screws:

And here it is mounted in the canopy.....out of sight and off the little table I had in the fish room.

I am sure you need 8 algae clips right?

James, I suffer from Algae Clip Obsession Disorder (ACOD). I’m in a 12 step program right now….ACA (Algae Clip Anonymous)….and I’m on step 4, building your own personal algae clip holder. This is therapy. Please don’t pick on those of use who have a disability.

Praveen, you are close enough, you are welcome to stop by and see it in person. Here is the FTS from the page before....full lights, white balanced:

It’s been a while since I’ve updated. Everything has just been humming along….until today. I go into the fish room and hear this noise coming from the sump area. I sit on my little stool and identify the eshine sump light as making the noise. I figure I’d have to replace the fan in the light, because it was obvious the fan was the culprit.

I remove the light and try to remove the micro screws holding the cover of the light. Two came out easily….the rest were a problem. I’m playing with them and my daughter’s boyfriend says, “Why not use an impact wrench?” My first thought (to myself) was, “You idiot…that’s too big.” I never would have thought to use this, especially with these little micro screws…and the fact that I thought my impact wrench would never fit these little screws. Well, was I wrong….the small bit fit and I was able to extract three of the four stuck screws. The one remaining had to be drilled out.

Anyway, thinking the fan had to be replaced was quickly found that instead, it was cover with smutz….maybe salt creap, precipitate….but something that was so thick it was hitting the blades of the fan as it came around. I clean it up and the fan was now silent. Problem solved!

Glad it's working better Paul.
Do you think the screws just got rusted in tight or was it just a soft screw that stripped on you?

George, they were rusted in. I tried all the tricks I know to get the last one out, but eventually had to drill it out. When I re-installed the screws, I relied on the best stuff in the business to assure I'd get them out again if and when I needed to....

Now I buy this in the biggest bottle available because I use it like Holy Water at an exorcism. On all the auto rebuilds I do, this stuff is used. Note that it is available in little packets at your local auto supply house. I'd highly recommend this on any nut and bolt application around you saltwater tank.

EDIT TO ADD: Cautionary note....any nut and bolt application on the dry side of your tank. Do not use this on anything that is submersed in your tank.

+1. Anti-seize is a god send for me. Every nut and bolt on my truck is covered in it. Living across the street from the ocean is tough on cars. Before I started using it just a break job was an absolute nightmare.

Haven't updated in some time....busy with a sick mother.

Walked in to check the tank this morning and the water temp was down to 77.5 degrees. I run my tank at 78 and it is typically rock solid at 78 to 78.2 degrees. I run two heaters, and one must have died a while ago, and the other went sometime last night. I know the one had died earlier because it was covered with schmutz:

While the the one that just died was clean as a whistle:

The good news is that I had back-up heaters. Two 300 W Sera heaters. I would prefer Jager's, but they are just too long to fit in my sump, and Sera's are my second choice.

I'm now wondering if the new backups I buy could be two 150 Jagers....they are the largest Jagers that would fit in my sump. My tank was keeping temperature with one 300 watt heater, so why not two 150's? Appreciate any feedback...and FYI, it's a 90 gallon DT with a 40B sump.

I have 2 150 watt heaters for my system. Total volume is 158. If one was going it kept it at 76. With the 2 the tank is 78.

First off sorry to hear about your mother paul. As far as the heaters go I think the 2 Jeagers should work fine especially since you can "calibrate" the Jeagers so that they run the same temperature. With the cheaper marineland/aqueon heaters I don't think I would trust it.
