Cycle underway

Well I added two of my favorite rocks from my other tank to get the cycle underway. Here is a pic of the final aquascape. Time for lights out and then we wait. Thanks everyone who helped along the way.

I can't wait either. I feel like it been cycling for a month. Only been a week. Luckily I'm leaving for ocean city soon the will help.

Well everything has been going smoothly. Today was my first hiccup. I had been waiting to get for my real sump to hook up the ATO. In the meantime I've just been manually topping off the 15 gal I have running for a sump ATM. Well I'm leaving for vacation soon so I figured I'd try to set it up. The ATO is from autotopoff.com. I got the dual switch controller. When I went to test it, it will not turn on/off pump. I can hear the relay switching but the pump will not activate. I tried the pump and it is working just not with the ATO. I also tried a couple of other pumps I have laying around. They won't switch on either. So now I have a call out to ATO.com. Does anyone have one of these. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Anyway the tank is cycling nicely and I'm getting antsy. Can't wait. Anyway that's it ATM.

just want to make sure that you are using the correct switch? The one that you are supposed to use to activate is the one with the cover over the float. Just thinking outside the box to see to make sure that you didn't put it together upside down....

That is the same ATO that I have and i love it. I actually change it a bit. I didn't like the fact that the floats are on top of each other (unless you got the side by side). So I got another bracket and mounted the 2nd float next to the main one and have it just above the main float.

So that the water level can only raise so high to turn the pump back off, just in case the first gets stuck on (which did happen in the past)

Yep got it together right. I even opened the relay box to ensure that it was switching. When everything is plugged in and I activate the first float the relay switches and lights. If I then activate the backup float the relay switches off and light goes off.

Also like to add that I can hear the power in the pump when it activated. I can hear it hum. Just not moving.

If you can hear the pump then it is the pump it seems have u tried other pumps? Or even plug a light into it and see if the light turns on

I'll try a light tonight. The pump works fine if it's plugged directly into outlet. Its almost as if theres juice just not enough of it. I also tried two other pumps and an air pump. No go on any of them.

Here's the response from ATO.com

"Hi John it sounds like the relay contacts may not be making a good connection. Try bending the prongs of whatever is plugged into the controller slightly in/out and let me know if that makes a difference. "

I'll give it a shot tonight. Fingers crossed

Ammonia dropping. Nitrites on the rise.

ATO.com is taking the ATO back to replace the relay.
Nothing to see in the tank as of yet. But I'm beginning to see the start of a diatom bloom. It expected though.

Nice! Did you figure out what kind of CUC you are going to get?

I talked to John at reef cleaners. His custom crew is basically a 90 gal quick crew. Told me to stay away from the chitons as they are better served in a mature system. Don't know much about them anyway. I'm gonna go with a 55 or 75 gal crew, since I heard they way overdo them, and I got my current crew coming from the other tank.

Ammonia gone. Quick question. I'm leaving for vacation for a week. Lets just say the cycle completes in the next couple of days. Will I need to have an ammonia source in the tank while I'm go to keep bacteria from dying off, or will it be fine.
