I know a gfi outlet sounds good on appear and to code, but don't they have a habit if potentially tripping and if you are away trash your hard earned work with a power outrage?

I've had my tank running on one since May. It's tripped once in that time where I didn't understand why. It had previously tripped once before when someone spilled water on the power strip. You can always run another heater and any auxiliary powerheads on another circuit. That way you have heating and water movement/oxygenation occurring even if one of the two circuits trips.

And since you mentioned it, I did a little research on how to be notified if the power goes out and there's anything from a device to sound an audible alarm to something that can call your phone if there's a water leak, temp drop or power outage. Found a reasonably priced one here:http://www.protectedhome.com/homesitter-p-118-l-en.html

Of course I have no idea of the quality, but for $100, it seems like good value.

I hope to have the tank on 3 separate circuits, so if one goes out I'm covered. The one on the display will be lights and a WP 40. If it trips we should know right away.

Word...I lost all but one fish last month when we were away for a long weekend. I have since replaced the GFI, bought a MP40 with battery backup, and moved my return pump to another non GFI outlet(my least proud moment). OH and I already had a whole house generator.
I then dropped a couple hundred bucks on fish. Moving the pump to non GFI ....well maybe not smart I think what I will do is eventually put a on a GFI plug....that way it will take a real issue not just the darn GFI clipping for no real reason.

You can also set up a router that your cell will ping...some APP for that ...if power goes out the APP will notify you....don't ask me which one it is but possible.

Question: Does the Automatic shut-off valve on the BRS RO/DI unit somehow shut down the booster pump that I will be adding to the setup? I'm assuming it does not, but want to be sure before I order the switch.

Thanks!

There is a pressure switch that is needed to shut off the booster pump. This is separate from the auto shut off valve. If you bought the booster pump "kit" from BRS it should come with it. If not this is what you need
http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/aquatec-8800-psw-pressure-switch-1-4-push-connect.html

It is installed on the product water line and senses the pressure created when the float valve closes and cuts the power to the booster pump.

That should do it. Good price too. Just need to get the transformer. Thanks!

Is ports down the same as a ceiling mount? The PDF said this on mounting.

The pump may be mounted in any position. If “ceiling mounted”, however, with the pumphead
upside down, air entrapment may reduce the operational performance by up to 15% . Consult
Aquatec for ceiling mount solutions.

Mark the transformer for the pump just plugs into the switch it has a in and a out plug. Also you can run the pump upside down that's how mine has been for the last year. The only thing with it that way is the plastic dampener that mounts the pump is off center and after a while i had to put a sponge under the head because the weight of the motor made it hit the wall and vibrate.
If you can i would mount it right side up, I wound up re mounting mine now its not hitting the wall.

Let me know if you need sand to seed that tank you bought

Installed electric outlets for basement sump and RO/DI area.

Another outlet and the RO/DI mounted. I now have all the parts to finish the RO/DI setup. Hope to be making water within a week. Waste water might be only issue. Dance

I have decided to try a clean up some of the nasty scratches on my used sump. I just ordered the Novus stuff, just wasn't sure if its safe for inside the tank. Anyone know? Thanks...
