Master Disaster 180gl on the Floor and 125 Rebuild!

I just saw the Marco Rock sand. It looks FANTASTICALLY small. Its too thin I think. My K4's will probably blow it all around the tank and my fish will choke and die a horrible death (highly unlikely lol.) But, I do like sand and I guess I could examine a few others and see how they work out.

I got the OOlite sand ;D...I don't think it is bad after a little while.
yea? whats your secret? since i have no sand gobies and such it's fine but i could see the clouds come from his gills with every mouthfull

I Like want to CRY right now!. I stupidly measured incorrectly I think and built a sump that will not fit in my Stand. Its a 30 Gallon Breeder Baffled and ready to be sumpified. I'm so dissapointed. This will really set my build back a good bit while I figure this out. I have been toying with the idea of making the sump be outside of the Stand in 2 Matching Side cars to the sand. I would have to build these myself. That Or I need to go buy some acrylic and build a sump myself.

I gotta fit this Brand new Skimmer in W/E Sump I decide to get

http://www.marinesolutionsinc.com/catalog/images/MSX250.pdf

It has a footprint of 12.5 X 14

The Tank stand is 6 Feet Long. At its widest point it is 15.5 feet wide. I don't know what to do.

hehe i did that too so dont feel bad. how about cutting out one of the sides and putting some clips or something so you can take it off and move the sump in/out. that would be the best solution since you really should have as big as a sump as you need not what you can fit in the doors..

your gunna love the MSX if you havent used one yet

can you raise your tank and put sump from the top?

Hey asonitez, when you had your 180 on the ninth floor, were you not worried about the floor not handling the weight of the tank? This problem has put a halt to my build.

For the sump. I would do what rafal07013 suggested.

I can't unfortunately I am using a 30 Gallon breeder tank and It will not fit no matter how I twist and turn it. The Fact is that It is 18" wide and the braces for the stand are Fat and Wide. The stand I got is severly overbuilt and I think that How the wood is positioned it takes up some of the interior space.

My Build Thread is here

My 30 gallon Breeder won't fit into my stand because these 2 Additional Braces are robbing me of 1 full inch of space. I was wondering if I can remove them.

Lunchbuckets stand dosen't have them and seems as if they wouldn't be needed.

Here are some pics of the interior of my stand and how The legs are built. I would not remove the front middle brace just the rear 2. The Sump Once inserted would hang out exactly 1" over the side of the stand and under neath that 1" over hang would be the 2 removed braces making the sump flush again with the stand. It would make a POCKET for the Sump. Alternatively I can remove just ONE of the braces which is all that is really needed for me to fit the sump into the stand. Again I would be creating this Pocket for the sump.

I can also Chisel Away part of the back brace and the front one 1/2" each to reclaim 1" of space which will make my stump snug in the stand.

Lunchbuckets stand looks like is built with 2x8's on the top. What about yours? If you want another choice, remove the back center brace, than add two braces the width of the sump so that it can slide in/out from the back. But once its in and the tank full of water, you can't take it out. You can also do this to the front of the stand, but than you will have to repaint the front and do the doors.

I removed 1 Brace and I'm building the pocket now for the sump. It was suprisingly easy. What I did notice was that the Center Brace and the Offcenter Back Brace were extremely thick along with the rest of the wood. I got my sump inserted in! Now I'm going have to decide how to plumb it. Plumb both overflows into 1 main line or keep the 2 overflow lines seperate.

Just a few updates before the Pics! I found out the tank is not 125. Its 135. 72" Long 18" Wide 24" High

I figured out how to get my sump into the stand. I basically Re-Re-Re enforced the back, replaced the thin 1/4" piece of chip board and installed a full solid legit Piece of 1/2" inch thick piece of wood. I also Snugly Fit and Installed Support Beams in the Front Middle and Rear Ends Off center. Then to make sure it would hold, I had one of my friends from the local college (Civil Engineer)come by with his laptop. 1 hour later and a quick sketch up in Auto-Cad and then a virtual simulation showed that my stand could withstand about 5 tanks filled to the brim without bowing. 2X8's and 2X4's are strong O.O! The painting of the trim came out well after a coat of Primer and 3 coats of black satin. I also gave the tank the Oceanic treatment by using 5% Automotive Tint on the back wall to uniformly black it out. I find that having a black back wall looks extremely neat, clean, and algae tends grow less there!

Yes I installed Satin Silver Handles!!! 5 Bucks each but they look sexy.

Pics of the oceanic treatment tonight!

Lights are Hung up. IT was a PAIN in the butt to get it up there. Installing eye hooks into a concrete ceiling is damn near impossible. This was after trying to glue, epoxy, build a L shaped bracket onto the back of the tank, build a PVC light hanging kit and other crap that shall not be named. In the end It came down to drilling 4 holes into a piece of pine wood. Installing the eye hooks, pre-drilling into the ceiling with a 3/16" bit and then using TAPCON screws to keep that sucker up there. My Fiance' sat there watching me huff and puff and use power tools. She said it was sexy.

Sucks to be me. Well after getting that lighting up and realizing I would not have to move the tank anymore I slid in the Sump Drilled 2 holes to run my wires for my RK2 - RKlite into the stand. I need to find some way to cover the plugs to avoid salt spray from getting into the plugs. I'm thinking Acrylic!

Some people asked me why I have 2 controllers. Well I like control, I also have a ASUS eePC that I got on Ebay for 120 bucks Next to the Tank. Basically I want it to monitor the tank, the controllers, and I want control of all the electronics in the tank. The RK2 I had and the RKL I got used on craigslist. I plan to eventually sell both of them and Get the RKElite w/ net module and 2x 8 Plug sticks. This should control everything under and above the tank. I will eventually sell things like my ATO from JBJ and Coralife Orp controller and replace them with RKELite Modules that do the same thing.

Pics tonight promise. Oh and also I'm missing the base of my AGA megaflow over flow kit. (Just 1) Where the hell would I get another one /sigh.

As promised Pics! Also Update: AGA is rush sending me the replacement parts for the kit I purchased. Btw.. does anyone know why Non-Kink Vinyl Hose is so damn expensive? 23 bucks for a 6 footer and I need TWO! !????? Bloody hell I could have plumbed my entire tank for less than the cost of one flex hose. W/E though I bought the kit and have to deal with it. I can't help feeling like a noob though for spending that much on some stupid tubes. After examining the plumbing situation I went to the range and unloaded a few clips. I felt better.

The Automotive Tinting of the Back wall went really well. It looks fantastic.

These YoYo Hangers are amazing. I am able to simply Lift them out of the way effortlessly to gain access to the tank. The Measuring on the ceiling thing sucked but I don't think I will ever use a canopy again. The added Bonus of having the wood on the ceiling is that I can add supplemental lighting and hang those as well.

also..

yes I know the lights are crooked and not hung at the same level but i just have them w/e way out of the way while I finish the tank. I'll make them all even and pretty when I am done tinkering. Bleh.. also the Fiance said paint the room the tank is in all white. So.. Guess what I'm doing Thursday! :(

Better she decided now then after you have the tank setup at least. ;)
I would bet that if you took a poll 95% of new tanks are in a freshly painted room it is part of the price we pay.

Rooms all painted Tank in its final spot. Plumbing done, now Its filling with water while I'm at work. I was remoting into my home pc just now to check the progress but the computer was strangely shut off. The computer is in the same room as the tank and im scared the tank broke and flooded the room and shut off the pc. I have a friend otw over there to check it now.

You have it test filling while away at work, you're a much braver man than I am. After my 24 cracked I'm paranoid about things like this & you had (2) 180's break, brave.

hehe I'm away but my Webcam is on SO I can See whats going on now! My Friend checks on it and I have 6 Leakfrogs all over the place. I go home in 3 hours so im not too worried. I have test filled it before. With FW. BUT when you move it onto the stand and from outside to inside and on a dolly and stuff It's scary that nothings changed. So I got water in it. Tonight is Salt! I still have to

Install Phos and Carbon Reactor.
Install ReefKeeper 2
Install JBJ ATO
Install Skimmer (Gotta Clean It)
Install OrpController and Ozone

Aquascape, Throw in a few bottles of BioSpira, Add some Vodka, And Cover the tank in Blackness for 1 week.
