My Oceanic Tech 120

Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.

the cobwebs are growing on this thread! lol.

Hey I saw a pair of twin spot gobies at OGII. I was under the impression though that they were hard to keep (or that they should not be kept singley). I have to go double check what bob fenner said.

Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.

OK OK I know.

I will get a good update soon but more important this weekend was the SUPER BOWL!!!!!

They are fine to keep in a big tank. They are hard to keep in a small one.

Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.

That was a GREAT GAME!!!

The only thing that would have made it better is if the Giants were in it!

Or if they called less penalties (which I really found to slow down and mar the game). It got a bit unwatchable in the 2nd/3rd because of that (but the 4th was better).

Would have been fine with me so long as the Steelers still won ;)!

As far as new fish I am done for a while. First my pseudocromis is just not very nice to newcomers. And second while I have a QT tank setup I don't feel like the hassle at the moment. Eventually I would like to get something like he twin spot gobies or even a mandarine ...I have a very lively fuge and a 120 but am a bit chicken. Also a pistol shrimp and gobie pair would be cool, but see shrimp eater above. Now I am working on keeping all my parameters steady and growing some corals.

Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.

OK well it looks like I update about once a month.   I will put a FTS in the monthly meeting thread.
Maybe some camera guru can get some good photos for me then  ::).
So lets see.  I included the TLF reactor and am using Seachem SeaGel which is supposed to last 3 months between changes.
Thanks to Phil for zip ties idea I had no leaks after installation.

Also I have started dosing conservatively with Iodine.  I figure between my cheato and inverts it was needed.  This was per Bax.  Have to say my growth on our clam has been super since I started adding.  You can see all the shiny new shell.

Got two whip gorgonians from group buy.
One was super purple while the other looks like this.

Did something go terribly wrong or will it come back?  Looks maybe a little better but am not sure.
Also have added couple corals from Trigger, Mott, Diaz(MR) and a couple from the raffle(I let my wife chose as she is a lot luckier then me).
Green moon from Trigger.

Also here is a moon shot of bubble coral I got from ricwilli.

Only bad news thus far has been two fish jumped.  One a firefish was not really unexpected the pygmy angel was bit of a shock.  Was one of my more favorite fishes so little sad.
Thanks for looking.

Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.

Nice shots James. Sorry about your jumpers. Having peeled a couple of dried firefish off the floor, I can relate.

Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.

Ooooh! Jumpers!

The growth on that clam looks great! You must be doing a good job of keeping up with Alk & Ca to support that growth.

Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.

I knew I was asking for trouble with the firefish...the pygmy not so much. Open tank just puts a damper on so many fish.

I just dose with two parts ...try to keep up and everything tests fairly well.

Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.

2 questions if you don't mind:

What light fixture is that, a Tek?

How do you think the flow is with the Mag12? I get really conflicting feedback of using an eheim 1260 which is about 600gph and using several koralia 4s or a vortech setup and then some say to use a Mag12 or Mag18. Very confusing...

Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.

Nope it is from Catalina Aquariums. It comes with the bulbs for about the same price as Tek without. Very good warrenty on the ballists. The bulbs I have been swapping out as I go. Not sure exactly what I want yet. Won't confuse you with all my thoughts yet.

As far as the Mag 12 goes it is a good bit of pump for the overflow. Because the tank is in the TV/Family room I did what Hawkeye showed me and a)put a valve on the return and b) ran a line off for a TLF reactor. It has made the overflow much quieter. I have to K 4s and 2 MJ900 (less watts per gallon as far as flow) plus the return. For me it is the right amount of flow (I think anyways). Will post some updates on Monday most likely.

Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.

Ironically I updated exactly 1 month ago.
So you all saw the tank setup. But, since I have done some upgrades behind the tank in the crawlspace thought would post some pics.
Here is my Reef Fanatic ATO unit. Took me very short time to setup. Works like a charm.
ReefFanatic.jpg

Here are my two Brutes one for salt water and one for top off RO water.
Brutes.jpg

Ran lines across basement into each one. Then for water change I switch the plug for ATO to pump for SW and refill tank. I still have to carry waste water away but everyting else is easy.
That is about it no other real issues.
Tank is about the same.

Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.

looks great!

I wish I had room for two brute buckets! I must...eliminate...kids play area...lol.

Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.

It makes life easier for the water changes that is for sure, but the real hassle savings is with ATO. You have that at least. I used to fill a bunch of gallon jugs and 5 gallon jugs and do once a day top offs was a pain!!!
Now every 2-3 weeks I can just make water so much easier. The difference between a 120 and a nano is amazing as far as work goes. And water/salt use.

Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.

How about you come over and set one up for me this week as I'm watching the race at Talladega? ;D

Looks great. I so need something like that set up.

Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.

Believe me it was really easy...group buy in June is the way to go I am using a Toms Aqualifter....understand that may only last 6 months...so total was less then 100 bucks setup. Next up equipment wise is some sort of controller...which one I don't know yet. AQ Jr or the new lite version I suppose.

Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.

hey man - happy belated...a few days late i know.

Question for you- the raffle frag you won at malulu's - where are you placing it? For the life of me mine just remains brown.

Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.

I placed it on top of the shorter mound in my tank. I guess it is sort of brown with purplish tips.
Of course I have no idea what color it is supposed to turn, I will take a picture of it. Looks like I have had some decent growth and polyps are always out, really fuzzy most of the time. Have you had growth?

Re: My Oceanic Tech 120 and a request for input.

Time for some new pics all the way around, I think.

Sounds like we missed a birthday, Happy Belated Birthday James!
