proventing future spills

i am being threatened to lose my tank if any more water gets on the floor. it's a 20 gallon tank with an overflow box. i have a aqualifter hooked up to some air line tubeing which is in the u tube of the overflow box so it doesn't lose syphon. i have a dolphin pump rated for 275 gph i thinkgoing up to the 20 from the 10 gallon fuge. there is a chack valve on this so if the power went out a syphon wouldn't start. the only thing i can think of to make it more leak resistant is to drill the tank.

any help would be appreciated.

We have a low level float switch in our sump. If it gets to that level the pump shuts off. It either means the tank is ready to overflow or it is time to fill her back up from the evap, lol. With the overflow box under powered for the pump we're using and the aqualifter we never have a problem any more knocks on wood. I have seen more water on my floors (and through my kitchen ceiling) than I'd care to admit! I'd hate to think of what my mom would have said if I was living in her house!!

Funny this would come up.

I just flooded my basement for the 100th time, filling my Garbage Can with RO water. The best part is that as I am mopping up the 10 gallons of water, I look on a table in the room and see the float switch I have been too lazy to install. :-\

So get a float switch and use it! lol

LOL! We had a major puddle on our basement floor today too. Darn siphon hose doing its job... Too bad it was still in the water when we were done with it! LOL!

Brian - I think you need the solenoid shut off on your system. Unless its there and I can't see it.

More Stuff!?!?! NOOOOOOOOOO! ;)

Okay, now that I got that out of the way...

What is a solenoid shut off, and why do I need it?

I have the RO hooked up using a Faucet adapter, and the float valve is more of a fail safe so I don't flood my basement again. It does stop the water flow but the pressure remains in the line which I would thing isn't really a good thing. Maybe instead of flooding I will have my water lines burst!

Ya know.. I never even thought to look at that!

I need to order some RO stuff.. So I will look at that as well

Thanks!! :D

hmmm I thought that after the RO water is shut off, the waste water also shuts off. maybe not immediately, but eventually it stops wasting water. Am I wrong about this?

If there is still water pressure going into the RO I think it will continue to produce water. Well, at least mine did for about 10 minutes after the float shut off the product water.

I really just wanted to avoid flooding. But I am going to purchase one of those selenoids because I want to automate the whole top off thing a little more. Carrying buckets is starting to wear thin on me.

If you install a backflow valve on your RO unit then the waste water will shut off after the float valve is closed. I'm not a 100% sure but I think the backflow valve goes in between the membrane and the next stage filter.

Well..

Walked into the room where I have the RO set up..

Guess what happened??? Just Guess... I dare you!!

Give up??  ???

Of all the freaking things that could happen. No, The float valve didn't fail..
The water wasn't even high enough to trigger it.

The waste water hose popped out of the sink somehow!!

Un-FREAKING-believable!

I would say approx. 9 Gallons on the floor.. Just by what I sucked up with my wet dry vac.

One more lesson learned I guess!

I purchased an ASV from AirWaterIce.com

It still doesn't shut off the waste water. Now I read that I need a check valve. Does anyone else know about this?

This just keeps going and going... ::)

the check valve came as part of my Kent ASV kit. It's definitely part of the system. Maybe they just forgot to included it with your order. It's hard to believe it would be extra.

I don't think it comes with it. It kind of makes me a bit angry that they don't mention it on the website at all.
I guess I should have researched it a bit more. The way they describe it on the web page makes it seem like the ASV is all you need to make the system automated.
