Have you checked your levels? Are you going though a cycle
I checked and all is normal. No cycle. It was only about 10 lbs of sand. Just enough to cover the bottom.

Just ran out and got a copper test. Showing 0. Just looked up the sand company again to see what it say's and its saying it is marine safe so I'm at a loss. Why would 10-15 lbs of sand crash a tank? Whats got me real puzzled is its hit and miss with what corals are affected. Red cap looks fine but the green and purple look terrible. All acro's look horrible, but the setosa is colored up and has polyps showing. LPS is the same. Hammer, Frogspawn, Torch, Candycane, and Duncan are all closed up, but the slipper/tounge coral, chalice, acans, and bubble looks fine. Softies mainly all look bad, theres just one rock with green mushrooms that looks okay, the 2 hairy mushrooms detached. Zoo's are 50/50 half are open half are closed.
Just makes my head hurt looking at it.
How did you wash the sand? Was it live sand? New live sand or sand from another tank?
it is REALLY easy to crash a tank by reusing sand ( adding old sand to a new tank).
Was the carbon Kent Marine Carbon by chance?

That does not look like live sand.
Did you wash it in fresh or salt water?
Have you tried doing a water change?
Fresh water, but was drained before adding to the tank.
Everything still looks terrible. Lost one of the encrusting monti's and the setosa is starting to bleach out as well.
Brand new sand. Washed it in a bucket(what I use for water changes). Its estes sand. Its kind of hard to explain it but its more course than regular sand. http://store.seacorals.net/esaqsawhaqsu.html
I also just replaced the carbon in the reactor so hopefully that pulls whatever it is out of the water.
Estes sand is actually a resin coated gravel......from their literature:
"All Estes products are clear coated, using 100% environmentally friendly high gloss resin. This state of the art process makes their gravel virtually dust free, and provides the best possible appearance and ease of use in your aquarium."
It's been a while since I've looked at this "sand," but back in the day, it had mixed reviews.
Looks great Josh.
Looking good Josh.
