Yes, a bit larger, could always pack with extra epoxy.

Wow! I'm impressed. Pete, I have a kiln that you can borrow, it needed. And I mean borrow, because I don't want to watch my electric meter spin faster than a B17's propeller. It's 220 volts, and relatively easy to transport.

Nice job on the frag holders....looks like this weekend will be up to 60 you should be in good shape.

Thanks, just the prototype, we will see as my clay working skills improve how or if they get better.as for the weekend, gotta work but hopeful to get a work break.

Nice job Pete. Were you able to add a bit if texture to the holders?

Yeah, a tooth brush and I'm going to try something with better bristles works best after the clay dries for a few hours. Mind you I'm still figuring this out but it is entertaining.

Thanks Paul, my coworker will fire em with some of her pottery. One less thing to add to the house collection.

Looking good Pete. You were not kidding about getting those started when i was over on monday. And keep saying you are not a crafty guy and keep proving us wrong with carpentry and now sculpting lol. really believing you. HA!
The stand and canopy are looking great. For supposedly not having any carpentry experience you are doing an awesome job. They are going to look awesome in that expresso stain for sure. I am going to have to order some of those magnets and replace the one i have. The shortcake is not wanting to give way.

Ive never worked with ceramic, but with polymer clay, any hole I make shrank less than 1/8th of an inch, which is sort of alot when trying to make jewelery holes. I think you did a great guesstimate but are any of your plugs kiln safe (never worked with one sadly). If any of them are, did you think about slipping a few of them into the holes? It shouldnt shrink too tight that it wont come out. I used eyelets but again I was working at way lower temps.

Regardless, very awesome.

Well ha a little time today, got the doors hung. Had a little measurement difference with the canopy and the stand doors. As you can see the center trim is wider on the canopy relative to the stand. Oh well, I'm not a carpenter and with 2 kids,2 dogs, 2 cats, not to mention salt water and time, who cares.

Pete, let me give you some advise…..having painted numerous cars (all with some boo-boos)…..NEVER POINT OUT YOUR MISTAKES, BECAUSE OTHERWISE NO ONE WILL SEE THEM!

You did a great job! Very nice.

You also gave me a little deja-vu moment with the “twos” comments….with a Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young song:

Our house is a very, very fine house
With two cats in the yard
Life used to be so hard
Now everything is easy
'Cause of you….

So I’m guessing everything will be easy from here on out!

Again, nicely done.

If you had not said anything most people would not even notice that kind of detail. Looks good man.

Thanks guys, dealing with projectile vomiting and crabbiness in the 1yr old. Sort of like out of the exorcist....nothing like finishing your day with a vomit bath. Joy!!

Pete, I’m in the “advice” giving mode tonight….but I’m going to pass on advice my father repeatedly told me…….did I mention repeatedly:

“You’re the one who wanted to play house!”

Wow Pete it looks great! I love the sap grain in the birch is gonna look awesome under that dark stain. Are you going to use wood conditioner before you stain? I always use it on soft or porous wood.
As far as the difference in the doors, the quality of the build far exceeds that little over site. Nice DIY

When you start selling those frag racks sign me up for a couple :)

Thanks Rob, I ended up going black walnut like. I used a conditioner but my stain is pretty dark only hints of the grain come out which is fine cause the main event is the tank. Just put my first marine poly coat on today. The stand with its front ledge should allow for one more custom tank upgrade if ness. Lol. When it's done, I am surprised at how well it went. I guess patience has its merits...

So my DIY of ceramic magnetic frag mounts came home today and I must say they really look great. Quite surprised.

image.jpgimage.jpg front and back with spots for magnetic mounts.

image.jpgthis is a small mount, light as a feather.
image.jpg back side and you can see the magnet in the back recessed area. Plan is to leave @1/8 of an inch so the ceramic will not scrape the glass if you move it.

I used a fork and tooth brush to add texture so as the coral encrusts it will really fuse to the mount. Also once coraline starts it will look even better. Cost for all my clay14$, magnets, special large with 10 lb weight hold @ 5$ a piece. Cost to fire.....6 pack of some Belgian ale/ 9% alc;)

I have had these magnets in my tank for months. They are, how shall I say entombed in plastic that's quite thick. It's not a coating. Anyway no problems and have great holding strength. Just need to keep then a distance from mp pumps as the magnetic field can cause abnormal/ wobble to the wet side.
