Zippys tank

Wow Pete, I’m impressed….you’re also an ar-tist!

Are you using those super strong neodymium magnets?

Well Paul my mother was and amazing artist versed in many mediums. I a good art critic with basic skills. Thanks, and yes they are the large ones have 9 lbs of holding strength. But like I said they are entombed in a thick heavy duty plastic. Never had issues nor signs of corrosion/cracks.

They look great Pete. I love the shelf and that branching looking piece. Great job. I see a side business venture in your future.

You can drill the side wall of a 40 gal breeder from petco. Yes/no? I have a design plan for my 120. The wall it is up against has a closet on the opposite side. I was looking to put a 40 in the closet floor that the DT would drain to. Here I would also have my skimmer and the refugium with a hole in the far side wall of the 40 that would passively have water return through the wall to another 40 below the DT tank. It is here I would keep cutting from the DT. Here also would be the return pump to the DT above.

Here is a side view of what I was thinkingimage.jpg

I would only be cutting the glass on both tanks at the side opposite return pump and skimmer. The water draining from the DT would go through the wall over the tank edge and into the 40. Am I making sense? This would give me theoretically 200 gal water volume. The wall that separates the DT from the closet is a load bearing wall to the foundation, so weight is not an issue. The reason for more water desire is with sps in my 55 it's like driving a high end race car with regards to alk and cal. I want my dad's dodge polara that you start turning the wheel a half mile before the turn, so I have less rapid swings.

Pete, Pete, Pete, pick a side….you can’t play both sides of the fence!

Put your sump refugium under the tank OR in the closet behind the tank. Definitely not one piece on one side, and the other piece on the other side. You’ll be running back and forth between “under the tank” and “in the closet” to get things running right.

Now that I think of it Paul I am going both sides. Now of I can get my relatives out of the way this week I can get back to it.

Both sides seems like it would work. I gravity fed a refugium into my sump on my 120 before. However I had split my drains into 2. You don't want your water to rush right through the fuge. A calm flow is essential.

Thanks I believe it should work too. The DT would go through the wall and the tank in the closet would house the skimmer and my refugium then a connection at the far end would go out the side of the tank through the wall to the 40 located below the 120dt. In here I would have my frags with a mp10 for random flow and then final corner would be return pump for a straight shot up to the DT. Flow through the two tanks would be at the mercy of the overflow in the DT.

Pete, your beasts will never cease to amaze me…it’s like going to the zoo of the bazaar. You have the Phyllis Diller birds in your avatar and now this Bat-Cat. For those who don’t know Phyllis Diller, here she is:

Doesn’t she look like the birds in the avatar?

Now what kind of beast is this new picture?

And as far as getting back to the tank, you have a young-one….enjoy her now, because you blink your eyes and they’re moving out. Christmas is the best with little ones.

Yes Paul, you are right this time of the year is about kids. My birds do look like the aforementioned entertainer. I remember watching her many a time on TV. I challenge you Paul to guess the breed of cat I have. His name is Sneakers and in my profession we tend to collect the misfits. So yes he is a purebred genetic misfit. My requirement for a pet is that they be play dough with my kids, could care less as to what the look like.

Here is a better shot of him, gotta love the rouge canine out the corner of his mouth.

Paul you on point this fine morning. The cat is interesting but the Phyllis diller reference is dead on. Not to mention the other thread.
