Zippys tank

Well I had 5 hours to do tank work today and got dry rough fitting for most of the plumbing done.

image.jpg. Drilled holes through the stand. Took a beer and measuring 10 times befor I drilled the holes.
image.jpg drilled through the back of the stand and two dry walls to make a through for plumbing.
image.jpg this is the closet side that will house skimmer and refugium.
image.jpg. This is a close shot of the overflow, two connectors to allow for disassembly for some unforeseen reason.
image.jpg return from refugium section that feeds a 40 breeder that will house cut frags from DT above and lead to DT return pump.

Thanks, long time in the making. At least I've had lots f time to mull changes and stick to the kiss method. The tank in the closet is higher than the 40 under the DT so the only glass I had to drill was the corner side of the 29 in closet. Hope to get water in it by the end of Feb. Lol

Still going with the bare bottom?

I will have the bottom covered with the marine board Downbeach talked about. This way things that encrust can be scraped easily and rock slides not hit glass.image.jpg.
Now I plan to have about 50 lbs of reef sand in my fuge and below DT frag tank. This will help with bacteria and as a buffer to alk swings. So to answer your question...yes and no.

Looks good! I picked up some frags magnets from oceans wonders strong little things but expensive $10 for 4

Well power went out but auto generator is humming along just fine. Since it was a snow day and I have the kids my wife had her dad come over and give me 2 hours. So I went below the tank in the crawl space and placed 2 support walls in line with each side of the stand above. My flooring is 2x6 that are 8" on center. So 5 of em will be supporting 3/4 of a ton above. I realize to all those in construction this may be overkill but I know that slab is 4" on a poly layer over 5" gravel and I can sleep easy. image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

So was playing with some of my rocks today. I am going with a two sided cut from macro rocks. This allows me to create a step like appearance. While some may argue it does not look natural and I would agree, it gives a large surface to grow sps. If I'm able to grow them like my 55, you will not even notice the rock work....my theory.

This is a rough setup, will probable change many more times.

I love it. Im a huge fan of shelf. Looks great, not ti mention you have all those magnet shelves to add to the walls

That is cool rock, Marco cuts it like that?

Yup, this is double side cut, cheaper than single side which you can see on the floor of the bare bottom. Or you can cap off the flat pieces with single side cut, glue to back wall or whatever. It's quite porous with lots of holes to allow for flow and can dry stack very solid.

yup, definitely doesnt look natural. but when its full of glowing radiant sps, nobody will care. :)
especially if you end up with one of those tanks where its just a thick bushel of intertwined coral where exposed rock isnt even visible - and those are always neat to see. though i imagine hard to maintain.
