Zippys tank

Definitely get that consumption figured out. My stuff was growing quick, but once I started dosing things just took off like crazy.

I'll give the overflow a shot for a few things. I do have a monti strategically placed to grow up it but once that encrusts I'm not sure it will ever come off. At least the acros can be cut at the base.

Flare gave me this favia as a single polyp. Do not know the name, cool though and loves to be fed. Reminds me of the plant from little shop of horrors.image.jpg

Nice growth, it is always awesome to take some pics and then come back and see the corals grown out.

Got my Hanna phos checker today. Gave it a go and got 0.04 for the 55. I guess that would explain the slow down of growth from my macro algae. Not loving the packet dispensing method. You think a pixie stick packaging method would be better to get reagent onto the small glass vial.

Totally agree, hate the packets

General question to ask but let me describe the set up. I have a 55 gal AGA with one overflow slightly askew from midline. For the past 6 months I have had what appears to be bryopsis growing along the walls in the overflow well. From ther water flows to a sock which is changed when I see water overflowing. From there it is partially filtered vis a skimmer and then through a macro algae refugium to the last chamber a return filter with a per filter over the inlet. Never have I seen bryopsis grow elsewhere in the tank. After numerous attempts to scour the inside....it grows back. My water parameters a fine; Alk 8.4Dkh, Cal 460, Mg 1390-1400, Hannah Phos is 0.04ppm. Corals are happy and life goes on.

So my question; Should I embrace the briopsis and treat it as a nutrient export via harvest/algae scrubber since ican't get rid of it and do not see it anywhere else?

Pete, you make me feel like I’m going to confession to tell my sins. Bless me father for I have nuisance algae in my tank.

I won’t worry about it. I have a crop of hair algae in my sump that grows better than cheato. It’s only in the sump (probably because I have tangs in the DT.) It’s so long my clown is actually hosting it:

I also have some other kind of algae that only grows on the ends of my loc-line….a dark purple leafy type. I have to scrap it off ever couple months because it restricts flow. Here’s a bad picture, but shortly after I had cleaned it, so it’s not that long.

So I say you’re good to go with the little briopsis you have.

If you do decide to remove, keep an eye on the rest of the tank. I had a good amount of cyano in my sump and only in my sump. I decided one day that it would be a good idea to clean it all out. A few days later it was in the DT and not I'm my sump. It has since gone away though.

Thanks, I feel better! I do remove it from time to time, taking out about half a lemons worth. Never saw it any where else. The problem with the tank design is so much space is wasted on the return. It's like the black obelisk from the 2001 movie.

Algae on loc line is a variant of red turf. What tangs do you have? All my tangs devour that stuff specially mustard and fowleri.

Wondering of all you zoa fanatics would know what this one is. Got it from Pacificeastaquaculture the center is pink and the outer inside is a blue with a slight greenish color. I can not get a good shot. They look much better in person.
