Zippys tank

Got some magnets this weekend. I found that super glue does not stick to glass in the long haul. So k&j magnetics had a great selection. I ended up with small plastic 1/4 inch and 3/4 epoxy coated. These magnets are strong! Work fine and if you want to move a frag no big deal....just drag it like a computer mouse!

Here are some picsimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

Pete, did you coat those epoxy coated magnets in anything. I had the same things and I coated them in about 4-5 layers of plasti dip. I later found that they had started to rust. I ended up dumping them all.

No I did not coat them, they said it would be able to deal with salt water...I will watch and see. I have plastic coated magnets I can use if needed.

Here's a pic of two of mine after about 3-4 months in the tank.

I ordered 20 epoxy coated magnets that I added 4-5 coats of plasti dip to. All the magnets that made it into my tank were pulled and found rusted. All the one that stayed outside the tank were fine.

Keep a very close eye.

Thanks John, will do. I also have plastic encased ones that are water proof. If I see any signs I will switch over.

Forget what company but one of the frag plug manufacturers makes discs with the magnets inside. Ill see if I can find them.

The magnets look exactly the same as the ones I have. Hope they do not rust, time will tell and in the mean time they add a whole new dimension to the tank!

Looks great Pete. Are you dosing, using a Ca reactor?

Thanks Jim, I am manually dosing with BRS part. About 6 weeks ago I had the most amazing color, even with my ability to keep alk at no greater than 8 while maintaining mag and calcium. So got the motion after seeing other systems to slowly raise it as others seem to keep theirs at 9 or higher. Stupid idea as I have now some dulling of sps color and had a bit of stn at the base of 2 colonies. Now I am doing what I did in the beginning and we will see over he next few weeks as to what happens. Corals have full polyp extension but a bit brown or dull. It's probably time to upgrade with all the corals on top of each other

So I went sock less a few days ago. Only thing I noticed is skimmer pulls out more and I do not have to change the sock every 4 days! Yeah!!!
