    Gee, a true money pit. We've all spent large amounts of money on our systems but atleast we have something to show for it. I was so looking forward to seeing the pictures and then what a bummer. Sorry it didn't work out.

    sump advice

    First time I heard of 1" not being enough. I have dual overflows rated at 600 gph and tremendous flow through my sump. My middle baffle is 1" above off the bottom and I haven't had any problems (knocking, I mean banging on wood). BTW, I agree that you should be very generous with the silicone...

    Unscheduled water change.

    Sorry to hear of your misfortune. I guess it must be expected in this hobby. No matter how careful you are sooner or later you will experience some sort of leak or water spill. I guess that would be a good thread. To hear of all the horror stories or to see if anyone who has been in the hobby...

    Yes filter socks too need to be cleaned regularly. The point I was trying to make is that they are much easier to service (remove) than the pad since you would have to open the cannister...
