Thought & opinions please, re: filtering

I know that this has been brought up in other posts but what is the general consensus of swapping out a protein skimmer for an algae scrubber to use in conjunction with the floss and chemical bags?

120g Into the Sea -- My First Saltwater Build

Looking great so far. I may recommend running the drain pipes parallel to the back wall and 90 over to the sump Instead of diagonal across the sump. It might make it easier to service the sump as well as making the second manifold useful in the future. I’m sure more experienced people will have...

    Black box LED comparison

Most electronics we buy aren’t exposed to saltwater therefore we can be a bit more lax on whether it had the UL listing IMO. I’ve had the black box lights in the past and I chose a used Hydra over them for the ease of use. Also I’ve heard of complete replacements on the big brands when things...

    Black box LED comparison

I’m not sure that they’ll ever give them much credit. They really don’t like the fact that they’re not UL listed nor do they come with much of a warranty (if at all).

120g Into the Sea -- My First Saltwater Build

I’m really enjoying this thread (mostly because I’m jealous and my wife won’t let me get a 120 YET lol). Best advise I can give with the pvc is cut and piece it together as you go. Dry fit it and don’t glue anything yet. Then once you like what you’ve done, then start gluing 1 piece at a time...

I’ve thought about this before but I’ve read that there are too many pollutants close to shore to put into a small tank. Do you filter your sea water before you put it in your tank? I would definitely use the real sea water if the pollutants weren’t an issue.

120g Into the Sea -- My First Saltwater Build

True but if your neighbor were going to reinforce the floor anyway what’s an extra 5-10lbs. Just account for the extra couple pounds that I could add onto myself in a week

120g Into the Sea -- My First Saltwater Build

Since your neighbor is so handy, perhaps he can cut out you’re hardwood floor under where you want the tank and he can install tile. That could help solve that concern.
