I see them as a beneficial addition. I understand you may feel they are excessive, but if the tank could not sustain the quantity, they wouldn't survive.
One of the selling points is to get rid of costly water changes. When you factor in equipment and media costs is this really a selling point you agree with? How frequently does the media need changing?

It has been a while since I have been on, but I still have the cube. Had a series of issues including red bugs which wiped my SPS and then the tank had some additional challenges. I am basically back to mostly softies zoos one hardy SPS and one LPS.
