Yes, DT is on main floor and everything else in the basement. I'd definitely go herbie or bean for the drain. Herbie is 2 pipes, bean is 3 for safety, but again, some say you need 3 others 2 is fine. I just put 3 holes right through the floor for the plumbing, and another to run the...
Herbie is dead silent. My sump is in the basement and I have 2 MP40 QD, so unless the pumps are over 80%, I could bearly hear my tank running. I have a return pump probably pushing about 800 gallon per hour thru.
Depending on what your looking for you can get a nice glass tank which won't break the budget. Lots are sold used. I like glass, easy to clean, dont' have to worry as much to scratch. I went with starfire on 3 sides of mine, as I went for a custom tank (120 as well). First decide, if...
One thing you'll learn is that everyone will have a option from what light is best to shat salt is best, if Live rock or dry rock should be used. All are right answers for the specific person, it may or may not be right for you. There are a lot of ways to be successful but without patience I...
Why a CaRx on a 40? Dosing with a doser would be much easier and cost effective. That being said, the only way I would run a reactor these day is with the aquarium plants co2 doser and a maserterflex pump for the effluent. You will not get a more precise distribution of effluent. It's so...
Just make sure you run thru a number of cycles of lights, pumps, etc on and off. There are a number of cases where the GFCI trips due to lights switching on (a lot of the lesser quality ones). I keep my external pumps on a non GFCI, everything else is protected.
Patience.
Patience.
Oh and patience. Oh and that is the only right answer
Be prepared for new tank "syndrome". It will generally take 6-9 months even before you can consider your tank stable. Lot of people (self included) jump in and buy/get frags too soon and end up with dead coral. You can...
I went from all LED - 2 Kessils 360AWE, to the Giesemann T5/LED Hybrid. I was never a real believer in this light is better then that light, but in my tank once the T5 were turned on, noticeable growth was observed. I still think LED are great and have a lot of benefits, but I do now believe...
That is exactly my point, my softener recharges after x amount of gallons, I made about 60 gallons a week when I was really aggressive on water changes eg algae, so assuming a 2:1 ratio, that is 120 gallons going through the softener which accelerates the recharge rate.
As I said, I know I'd...
I have 2 Giesemann Actinic blue on my tank, w/a ATI Coral+ and purple+. Your welcome to stop by on the weekend to take a look.
I switch over to a T5/LED hybrid w/a Giesemann Aurora fixture about 1 month ago.
I'll be the odd one out. Before. I had it after and I was constant added salt to my softener. I'd rather replace the membrane once every 6 months or so then adding salt every 2 weeks.
Selling used Tunze pumps and controller which I purchase during the Dec 2014 group buy.
Asking $450 for the set and will ship UPS ground free to anywhere in NJ or local pick up in Summit, NJ area.
I paid about $625 for the 2 pumps and controller.
The pumps have been in use for about 9...
I moved to a bigger dehumidifier. I use one made by a company called Santa Fe I like this one since the heat output is less then the normal appliance store versions so is great in the summer.

The newly cleaned tank looks great. I'm in the same battle as you, algae just keeps growing. I just keep reminding myself, patience is key, your tank (as mine) is still new and will need to run it's course. It's hard when you lose fish, but I think the stress from the cleaning doesn't help.
I use some float switches, dosing pump and my Apex. You can buy something from autotopoff.com that can do this as well. I think it's the auto top off w/latching upgrade customization. This will power on and off the pump.
I went with C2c for my build had a good experience, and yes it was expensive, but the build quality was what was expected. I had a 48x24x24 built with internal overflow on one end (peninsula style) for a herbie overflow, they had my steel frame stand built as well. I was considering RS with...
If you believe buying quality is the best way to save money and headache in the long run there is no equal to the aquarium plants co2 one. Search it, I think almost everyone is in agreement it's the best there is. There are many others which will work fine, but are very hard to dial in.
I plan to once I defeat my algea issues as well. I don't see it as being an issue a number of high profile places are using them for grow out. You can see videos on there web site. As far as LED. I think they have the best technology, unlike others who have a multitude of LEDs for color...
