The skimmer will stop skimming till it needs too. Better to have an over size then under size IMHO. I have a life reef which out of the 3 skimmers i've had in the past (SWC, Reef Octopus) the easiest to dial in. I haven't adjusted it since I got it dialed in after the break in period.
Thank you for your service and welcome back.
I agree Herbie is the way to go, I am using it on my 120. Its been great and very quite. Agree it's best to use a dedicate pump for the return.
Yup works great inside. I split mine in half a few times to get more from one brick. First in half, getting 2 squares, then I split the square across the middle to get 2 squares. Each about 1/4 inch thick. I find there is no need for the thickness of the eraser the way it comes out of the box.
I'm using the new Tunze one and I like it. It's a bit strange at first, but I like the fact that the magnet parts don't touch the glass on the inside. This reduces the chances of a scratch b/c of trapped sand. That and a magic eraser is all I have been using.
I've used Real Reef Rock for my build and I think it's awesome. My last build was with Marco. In case you don't know, Real Reef rock is man made. The pieces are really easy to stack and provide a lot of options w/o having to permanently join pieces together.
I've been running my Apex for probably close to 4 years w/o issue, any issue was user error. Given that the temp probe is isolated and not part of the heater in my opinion there is less to go wrong and you can set alerts to let you know if the temp goes above or below specific temps. The...
As many know I set up a temporary tank during my rebuild. I put in a new Gyre and had it running in the 40 breeder for maybe 2-3 months. Once it was set up it wasn't moved. The unit has been dry since and just recently noticed the cord insulation was crack where it entered the pump...
I haven't done much to the tank in the past few weeks as the dreading algae phase has started. I don't have a lot on the rock, and I believe its because I used the real reef rock, but the sand is getting covered.
What is the general opinion here? Let it be as it will soon disappear or...
My current tank is drilled on the bottom. The 40b uses the glassholes, and while quiet one can still here the water running. With a siphon based system, is very quiet.
Juan- now having a tank bottom drilled, I would vote for a Reef ready tank as well. Its much cleaner then having an overflow over the back and you can convert it to a herbie for a silent return.
i hope, I just need to order a back up pump, if my main blows!!! Thanks again.
It took a few trails and at one point, I spilled 1/2 can of fish food into the sump. That was funny as I had a cloud of food in DT. The fish were happy!!
mrehfeld - I appreciate the time you spent taking the pictures and I'm pretty sure that would work.
What I did, was via my apex, I have the feeder dropping right into the return part of the sump. The manifold and skimmer pumps turn off and then a circulation pump turns on. I found within...
Epoxy will typically overflow the skimmer, you can keep it off for a while or just let pull the drain plug from the collection cup till it stops. Nothing really harmful.
Same here - Lights and powerheads on it's own.
I have automated:
- the making of RO/DI with 2 float switches used as a latch switch
- filling of my 2 gallon ATO
- all the safety items to hopefully prevent floods (under sump, Under the DT and above the overflow and by the RO/DI holding...
