Anyone have any experiences with them in a reef tank and can chime in? long story short i either have to add it to my reef tank or sell him, i'd prefer to keep him. Mostly sps with a couple softies and lps.
I'd like to eventually get more involved, right now my tank is going through some issues so no real updates on it, i'm getting the house ready for our 4th kid, and things are a bit hectic, lol.
I don't think you have enough rods there. I'd love to be able to get out and fish more, especially for bigger fish. All i've been able to do in the past years was small bass fishing due to time, and not knowing where to fish from the shore. Biggest thing in the last few years was probably 2lbs...
I have a 3-4 inch powder brown who just went through 4 weeks of copper and a round of prazi, he is very healthy and eating anything. He won't be agreeing with my stocking list once fish start going back into the tank, offering him up for $40. I would normally be ok with trades, but going through...
The other guy never mentioned that, i've never noticed any discoloring in my tank, i've noticed my skimmer act up for a day or two recently, i don't believe that to be the work of the sea hair though, as there was no discoloration.
I have one currently, the guy i got it from said he has had 2 of them for a while, i believe a couple of years. I also have a ton of algae atm though. It's kind of funny to watch him just let go at times and float around in the current for a bit, not sure why he does this.
run carbon to see if it helps, have you changed anything recently or added anything? do you do any type of dosing? Also, whats your salinity at and how do you measure it? if it's a refractometer do you use 35ppt solution to calibrate it or r/o water?
I suppose activated carbon would help reduce the organics but it doesn't target nitrate directly, they do make filter pads for nitrates though. Most people can't kill xenia, it seems odd that those parameters would effect it. It almost seems like something happened in the tank, maybe something...
nitrates won't move at all with gfo, just something to be aware of, if they aren't harming anything though i wouldn't mess with it much, do you have coral?
I do right now as i'm dealing with an algae issue and i don't feel like ordering gfo. I do dose nitrates though in order for it to work correctly, my tank currently produces phosphates a lot faster than nitrates as there are no fish in it. i only dose 1ml a day, i may not even need to do it...
