for people with smaller tank size, getting a new ones everytime may be ok.
for others with 6 foot tanks, most likely with 350g+ water, recharging seem the way to go. (every penny counts in this hobby... especially current bad job market situation...)

or try a Cati-Ani unit (instead of RO/DI)... But make sure you check the water hardness reading before purchasing one...
i purchased a Cati-Ani unit and later on being annoying by the fact of my water hardness reading of 30+ (normal range less than 5), which causing the recharging of the unit...
i now, mostly go to RedSand, owner is very friendly, and very good price for fishes and corals, plus extra for free...
last time when he cracked his frag tank, he call me at work said: "david, just come by, and take anything you want from the frag tank... they are free!!"
can't get somewhere...
