Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Wow I got readers-cramp! J/K!
I read the whole thing and the one thing you don't really detail is how much of the frozen mix you feed. I think you're OK on the flake (although, I'm not sure who's up at 12am to eat it, but I don't have all of that livestock so some of them may be nocturnal...
Here are our other two tangs:
FINALLY GOT ONE! (Thanks to Will and Aquatic Obsessions - Great Customer Service!)
Here is the second fish we ever bought!
You can drill a small hole in the return line just below the water level. This will break the back siphon when the pump turns off. You just need to remember to poke it out with a toothpick every month or so.
We had a lot of luck with a 10g rubbermaid fuge.
My bad! I probably didn't phrase that properly and I'm sorry if I confused you, Arvin. The closed loop system I was talking about does not get plumbed into the basement. It runs on a separate pump sitting in the cabinet upstairs.
What I was envisioning is similar to the drawing you linked to...
I'm lovin' the fact that we're planning summer dive trips in February! I'm sure we'll be doing a few of them of this year. When we did this last year there was a lot for non-divers to do too. This year will probably be more of the same.
Yeah, go with a couple wraps of teflon tape. If that doesn't work, you could try pipe dope. That may work better. I wouldn't use a wrench, though.
I have the same return setup as you. I carried the 1.5 PVC right the return bulk head and ended it with a 3/4" barb. I then used a small piece of...
Start Peeling and bring a BIG box back to NJ with you! Of course, there's probably some law about transporting livestock across state lines without a license. Rats!
You're right about the slurp guns. We used them last year and got a couple of butterfly's. It's definitely easy to use.
Hopefully...
When I set up my nano I took everything from our established system and had a pretty bad cyano bloom too. It lasted from about a month. I siphoned it out every week and then all of sudden it just never came back.
Staring at the tank with one of your buddies, huh? Â Have you checked them for Psorosis of the Liver?
Sorry Brian, just trying to add a little levity to an otherwise awful situation . . . .
Nah. That one point isn't it.
OK, here's another stupid one but I gotta ask: It couldn't be suffocation, could it? Large fish dying, small fish living? But man, you've got A LOT of air being introduced into your system. It can't be that . . . .
Geeze, that really is the million dollar question. I hope you can figure out what it is. How about salinity? Kind of a reach, but did you check that? No meds or anything right? The real puzzler is that corals are fine.
What did you guys use to scrub the rock? It's taking a long time doing it with my toothbrush . . . . and I've started getting complaints about my breathe at work . . . .
Oh man Brian, that really sucks! I know, understatement of the year. I can't believe it.
I've told you my philosophy with this hobby (which I know sounds pessimistic) but I feel that every good day is one day closer to a disaster. We defy all kinds of odds by doing this delicate little...
