Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I'm afraid you'll starve the pump if you feed it with a smaller line. Ideally, you'd come out of the sump with something larger and then step it down right at the pump.
I know it stinks but here are a couple of options:
1) Make the existing hole larger (like 1.5")
2) Plug the existing hole...
I'm not sure how you go about safely lowering it. Â If everything looks good in your tank I wouldn't do anything drastic. Â Keep an eye on the level for a few days and see if it lowers any.
We're using the double controllers from AutoTopOff.com They work really well. Here's a link.
I'm not sure what kind of set up you have but these seem to be pretty versatile. I have one of them in a 10g sump that controls a pump in 5g bucket and another in a 100g sump that controls a pump...
Here are some links that Jeff found. I was running Ozone prior to reading these. Afterwards I shut it down because I was more confused than ever! All I know is there are some potentially serious ramifications if things go wrong (like "death in humans in less than an hour"). At some point...
Not to jack this thread, but I think I'm missing something. When I cost out doing anything in acrylic my jaw drops at how expensive it is. It almost seems cheaper to buy a glass tank. I guess if you need something custom you're forced to pay a premium, but otherwise how is it cheaper to DIY?
The only thing I'd to what Merv said would be frag plugs and/or small stable pieces of rock.
[EDIT] You beat me to it Bill! I really need to read the red warning that pops up BEFORE I decide to post anyway!
Not a bit. He is the most peaceful fish going. In fact, when we first got him, he and a small GSM would hang out together in little hole in the rockwork. At first we were afraid to put our hands in the tank or go anywhere near him. As time went by we realized that he was just a laid back dude...
Nice Merv! Fix away!
Nick, technically it's a gymnothorax miliaris. More commonly known as a Banana Eel or a Canary Yellow Eel. Sorry, no videos. I might try to snag some next time he's out an about, though.
We've had him for 1.5 years and he's doing really well. Based on his...
I made one with 2 baffles and it seems to work fine. The water goes under the first panel and over the second. I don't have any issue with micro bubbles getting back into the display. Like I said, it seems fine.
