John,
My bad. I've been so tied up with 50 hour workweeks that I've let a few things fall behind.
I'm going to try to leave the office by 6:30pm tomorrow.
Hopefully I can make it for 7:30 or 8pm.
Just jotted some basic talking points if I make it and you guys are interested. Can do it on the...
Smaller nems will split and start to spread out in an effort to survive.
IMHO...
Stop everything atm and give the tank a 24 hour chill out.
Add nothing to tank, livestock or chemical.
Then do a full water chem profile (Ca, PH, Mg, Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite, etc).
The big, and more expensive...
+1 on that.
If you're using the special grade reef that stuff is fantastic but needs to be rinsed thoroughly till waste water runs clear as et said.
When I've done this in the past I've turned off everything and used a 1/8" or 1/4" siphon tube to suck out the substrate.
I continue till all...
There's theory that as soon as we put stars in our tank they begin to starve to death slowly, thus the shortened lifespans.
Big, old, stable tanks are recommended and even then they don't take to many. Mark (MadReefer) is one of the few people I know who's managed to keep one alive for over a...
From before I set up my 1st tank I wanted a Mandarin (fish).
Never owned one as I was worried about it starving to death after it ate all the pods in the tank.
Also never considered feeding them worms.
I have lots of worms, black, white, intestinal, conqueror, etc...
Received an email earlier...
I do black worms and white worms.
Easy enough to do either, minimal space and effort.
You can buy a starter for either on ebay.
Pods are tricky and reqiure maintenance, brine shrimp don’t have enough nutrients (and require some maintenance).
Lemme know if you want more info, can drop it when i...
Sunny,
Since you left there's been a number of new members, but, unfortunately, many of the older and more established members have slid to the wayside and become much less active in the group. As such, there's a small group folks trying to pull things together, distribute responsibilities...
Alk shouldn't be a worry unless its an extreme swing. An Alk as high as 11+ is fine assuming it didn't jump 4 or 5 over 24-48 hours.
Check your ammonia, its not a normal test, but if it spikes it will kill livestock quick. Then, as Tigs mentioned, a CuC would strip the corpse in a few hours...
Agreed. Started the hobby as I wanted a Mandarin, have never owned one, even after a year of running my 90 I didn't feel the pod population was up to it. NOw I just look at them in pet shops.
I did, however, just pick up a hippo tang for my 20g.
