30 Gallon Adventure: R

Like which ones? I haven't bought anything yet because I would rather buy something I know that is safe and that I wont regret in the long run.

Went up to Trop today, got 3 purple/gold damsels, dripped them for about an hour or so. Everyone is doing good. Also saw some light fixtures up at Trop so maybe I'll email them about it. Also I never really thought of it, but saw I get the 6x24, and spend almost 300on it, then I want to upgrade later? It makes no sense to buy something that I can't use later. I mean whats really that wrong with having a tank with a lot of softies? I am just a begginner and I think a 30 G softie tank would be an excellent start. I may be missing something totally, but the plan of getting the sundial doesn't seem that bad. Again I may be missing something totally, but I just like the idea of having a softie tank for my 1st reef tank. If anyone else has any suggestions I'm more then willing to listen to them before I make my final decision.

Nothing wrong with softies only.

I think it should be a rule that everyone start there and after a year they can move up to harder stuff. ;)

Most folks get the bug to upgrade quickly, so most reefers will advise you to by the best lights you possibly can. But if waiting to buy more expensive lights is going to keep you out of the hobby and you understand what you can keep with the lights you can afford, go for it! ;D

Awesome. Thanks for the vote of confidence. I could get the 6x24 but I just dont feel the need to go spend 300 bucks if I'm going to upgrade in a year or so. I just think I'm going to get the Sundial and go from there. Now that I've decided to do this, where should I be looking for the best price for the Sundial?

I got the Purple Damsel Fish today at Trop. Also it says that the Sundial comes with a rear fan so I think that heat wouldn't be a problem. I've found that the Sundial is just a little over $200 so thats not bad. I would like to actually pick them up so I wouldn't have to pay the extra shipping cost, but I dont know of anyone around here that has those lights.

Did you ask Will if he doesn't have them I would think he would be able to order them?
T5s are not bad with heat but the compact florescent ones are terrible. I was refering to Mott's used lights if you really wanted to go cheap for a while. But I suppose if Sundial comes with the bulbs it is pretty close so you might as well get it.

I have a message into Will, and I'll just way my options from there. I hope to get these lights by next week. Hahahaha, The price for a frag at Trop is like 20.00!!

Alright I have the check all filled out and it is sitting outside in my mailbox slot waiting to be picked up. So Mr. Pope will have my payment and my account will be activated.

So now my tank has 3 yellow-bellied damsels, and 1 clown percula. Should I invest in anymore FISH livestock? I mean I have alot of "critters" 4 turbo snails, 2 peppermint shrimp, 4 blue legged hermits, 5 scarlet hermits, 2 emerald crabs, 1 serpent starfish. They had a sand sifting starfish at AO, would that be an option? There really wasn't that much to choose from fish wise at trop, due to the fact that I have a 30 G tank. Anyway, any suggestions? let me know :)

If you have paypal you can get your membership today. Could be advantageous ;).

I would say no to sand sifting starfish your tank is not really big enough or established enough.

Lets see the fish that you choose. Pic Please :)

Your fish options are narrowing down due to the size of the tank and the possibility of having some rather pugnacious fish already.

You could get a couple different snails.

I've got PayPal, but I have in linked to my credit card, not to a bank. I didn't really want that option. Anyway, I cant really get a picture now because they move so fast and always are swimming between the rocks. I'll continue to try though. So James, with the fiji rock that I have in my system, will anything grow out of the rocks in the upcoming months? And what kind of matience should I give to the skimmer? It looks extremely dirty because of when I moved the rocks around. Also I have to find the replacement filter pad for it it.

Also, is there any other type of equpiment that I should be looking into? An upgrade on the skimmer? Or any other equipment I should be looking into buying?

I would suggest investing in a good book I think you have received a suggestion on two on titles.

OK well get the check in the mail mate time is a wasting.

You need to keep your skimmer cleaned out. You should set up a regular maintance schedule.

I have my schedule for testing and what not setup. I just dont know what kind of matience to do with the skimmer

Alright well whoever is checking the topic, I could use some tips on how I should clean out the skimmer. Should I just unplug it and clean the whole thing out? Also I dont get the bubbles coming up to much anymore even with all the adjustments.

Empty the collection cup and clean the inside and such every few months. That's about it in regards to skimmer maintenance.
