Thank you Anthony……I would have made Brandon do some of the drilling :)…..gotta learn sometime!

Now with those Glass-Holes returns, how are you going to do a siphon break? Or do you have the space in the sump to hold all that volume?

Lol he actually told me that he thought I was going to break the tank. What a dope!!!!!!q

He said he is going to do siphoin breaks

This is what glassholes recommended when I e-mailed them. Can't say I like the idea so I'm open to suggestions

"This package contains the siphon break for the RS1500 overflow kit. Included are two
pre drilled elbows. The elbow used depends on the side of the overflow you wish to
have the return plumbing. A drill bit is included if you prefer to drill your existing drain
elbow. Drill a 3/8” hole in a location similar to the ones supplied.
Above is a sample of what the plumbing should look like at installation. Starting at the
left of the picture is the return. This elbow will connect to the line coming from the
discharge of the pump. Next is the left drain, which is connected to 1 1/2” plumbing and
drains into the sump. In the center is the return bulkhead and John Guest fitting to
supply the siphon break. Then we have the right return, which is the same as the left
return, with the addition of the siphon break line.

When installing this apparatus, be certain to insert the tubing firmly into the John Guest
fitting and the elbow. The line should have a gentle radius and not tend to kink. The tee
will need to be cemented to the return elbow, and the return plumbing cemented as well.
The drains will be installed as per the standard Glass-Holes overflow kit.
The plumbing can also be reversed if preferred, with the return on the right side.

Brandon, I like it! These guys will never cease to amaze me. Just think about how this works

Your pump is turned off
Water starts flowing back into the sump
No more water is going into the overflow box so the pipes going to the sump are air-filled
The siphon break “breather tube” is in that drain pipe, so it draws air.
Otherwise, when the pump is running, that smidge of water goes down the drain pipe.

Brilliant!

My only comment is that I have no idea why they are showing a return line between the two drain pipes??

Just for giggles or simplicity I guess if your pump is on right side and drains go to left or right.

I understand the idea, I dont like the idea of losing flow from the return since that paterial water would be going down the drain.

I use the glass holes stuff as well, I just have my return below the water only deep enough to fill my sump 3/4 full. What I did was turn the pump off, let the water drain into the sump, then put the return a bit lower then the water level, which will be at the bottom of the teeth on the overflow box.

I like the concept, I just don't think it's fail safe. If for some reason the siphon break tube pops out of the hole in the elbow... your return pump is going to be spraying water all over.

I wouldn't be worried about the lil bit of flow that gets lost back to the drain pipe. That's a minor percentage compared to the 1/2" pipe flowing back to the tank.

I also have my returns "up" near the bottom of the teeth on the overflow. If I should bump a return, and for some reason not notice, I have a check valve on there as a little extra protection.

Brandon, I’m going to get in my car and come up there and smack you!

That picture you posted was the concept of the siphon break. As you can see, I used one of those fancy draw programs to sketch up what your tank would most likely look like using this concept.

Now get busy with a trip to Home Depot and start gluing this together. Don’t make me drive up there.

You want plumb you come more welcome. See learning to speak like Olivier native language.

I speak englishnese. My house isn't hard to plumb.

I have a crazy idea for a fuge just wonder if i should plumb off drain or return

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk

Fuge should be off the drain....the drain will bring the nutrient rich water to the fuge for your macro to consume, then to your sump for your skimmer and chemicals to take care of the rest.
