Dan's 150 Rebuild

Yep sounds like you answered your own question. I think it all depends on what you have in the tank and what gets used up. The more water changes you do the less you have to dose obviously.

Yeah well I think I plan on having an SPS dominate tank. With a few LPS pieces and an anemone. So it'll get used up quickly. I guess we'll just have to see how religious I am with changing the water every week lol

Lol well of course I do and I plan to do WC every week, I'm just afraid to dose again after having an incident with my last tank, lost quite a bit of my SPS

As long as you keep it consistent.....time of day and amount no problem. However, dosing 2 part, 60mls on Monday and saying Thursday I don't have enough growth and start dosing 80ml per day would mean Armageddon for your sps in the next 72 hours. Think about the tortoise and the hare.....slow and steady wins the race, lol

No I definitely agree with you, I meant when I was dosing before, something happened and it stopped dosing my alk and I didn't notice it til it was too late

What does everyone use to weigh down their airline for the top off? I had a ball type air stone but it keeps clogging. The air tube won't stay submerged without something attached.

They sell airline tubing suction cups at AQuarium center.

Oh! It's just the tubing that transports the water. I took it as you pumping air into your ATO.

I use scrap acrylic and put a groove into it that snuggly fits the tubing. Nicely holds the tubing at the bottom. I use these in my ATO, and both dosing containers.

Lol nope no air in my ATO haha. That's not a bad idea either but I don't have any spare acrylic laying around so I think I'll try the suction cup method first :)

I may have asked this before but does anyone have any advice on adding Kalk to my top off??

From personal experience dan it's not enough for a heavily stocked sps tank but it should work fine if you are doing a mixed reef and keep your weekly changes
