Just put in two unions. One near the top and one near the bottom for each chain of pipe. That way you can split into three short sections. That's what ive always done, I even did it with the research tank I set up at rutgers just in case. Better safe than sorry lol

Yeah unions might be the way to go Lol.. I was gonna use flex thinking it'd be easier but after looking at unions, it seems the easier way to go. And probably cheaper
 
Unions can be expensive @ 4-5$ a pop but well worth it in the end. Also might consider flexible by all tubing going coming out if the pump. It tends to reduce vibration noise. I has mine set up as an external pump and couldn't stand the noise so I dropped it in the sump and hard pipes it and it was still loud. Finally put a small length of tubing and it got significantly quieter. But def use unions. Makes life way easier to clean and modify late on. True union valves are good too if you have the extra space and can afford the extra $10 a valve.
 
So you think I should hard plumb it with unions but have a small bit of flex at the end so that it doesn't make as much noise?

That is ehT I ended up doing with mine. Whatever I did I could not get that vibration sound until I used some flexible tubing. I run an ehiem 1060 or 1062 I can't remember which but it wouldn't shut up until I used hose. The hose makes it easy to make slight adjustments when you position the pump. I have little room for the pump and skimmer so it helps when it comes time to clean it.
 
I also couldn't find a Rubbermaid tub that I could fit into the stand (for water containment if something should happen, I am on the third floor) so I used a shower curtain to line the stand and then cut up foam insulation (3/4") thick and put that on top of the shower curtain for sound and to keep the curtain out of the way. It has saved my butt more than once.
 
Guess I'll give it a try. Its amazing the things we can rig up for our tanks Lol

Now as far as the manifold goes, what size PVC should I do? Just 2inch?
 
Started to stain the stand, just did all the little nooks and crannies. Tomorrow or Monday I'll finish it then put polyurethane on it

Mine is 3/4" for a 58g. Whatever the outlet on the pump is would be my guess. 1-1/4 or 1-1/2" I think would get it done. 1-1/2 would be 4 times the volume of 3/4" so it is right in the ballpark. I would just go with what the pump outlet is.
 
Looks like that mag 18 your using is 3/4". I would use that. Don't think making it bigger would help the flow any. Pump was designed for 3/4". Saves you money too. Smaller stuff cost less. If I was doing it I would make the manifold 3/4 and the valves coming off the manifold 1/2". 3/4x3/4x1/2 tees and your in business!
 
You will want a couple loc lines returning to the tank also or you will have a fire hose in the tank. That pump put out a lot of flow!
 
That's what I was looking at in the store too, 3/4". I'll have to make up a drawing of how I want it to go and then make a parts list. Wanna make the least trips possible lol
 
Trying to figure out what parts I'll need for plumbing. Definitely going with 3/4".

When putting the T's together for the manifold ports, do I get smaller PVC pipe to fit em together or are there Tee's thatll connect to each other sideways?

EDIT: I probably should have said I want my manifold to take up as little room as possible and for it to look similar to johns manifold
 
They don't have any special tees like that. You can get 90's and 45's like that. They call them street 90's or SPGxHUB where the one side inserts into the hub of the next fitting but no 'street tees'. 3/4x3/4x1/2 tees are the ones you want so you don't have to use a reducing bushing out of the tee. 1/2" valves will cost less than the 3/4s so it saves a little cabbage. Set the manifold up with all the valves and you can leave the other side of the valves open ended and run the reactors later after the system is up and running. After watching a YouTube video of one guys setup I probably would set the tank up about four inches off the wall and have the reactors standing up behind the tank. Leaves more room under your stand for other things and will be out of sight as well.

I thought about putting them behind the tank BUT I'd want the reactor in the center of the stand so itd be tough to get to em considering its a 6ft tank.
