Dan's 150 Rebuild

Mike, is there anything else involved in a E-pipe or is it literally just a pipe sitting there with an open top and bottom?

I'm definitely going to need helping setting this up bc I have no clue what I'm doing lol

Yes the emergency is only needs to be and open pipe at the inlet and outlet. You may need to tweak the height of the standpipe in your overflow a bit when you first set it up. Just use a slip fitting so that you can switch to a longer or shorter pipe if needed. Also your emergency overflow(s) are supposed to be off sufficient diameter to handle all of the flow if both of your siphons become clogged. I cheated this a little and didn't have a problem. I think that it is unlikely that both siphons would clog and you wouldn't notice it. The point is make those emergency drain as large as you can.

For your siphons I'd tee them together and use one gate valve to control them. Make sure that the discharge is just below the water level in your sump otherwise it will be noisy.

Its really not as complicated as it sounds and is worth a little extra effort. Fire away if you have questions.

Awesome that's Mike. Sounds like it should be pretty easy. I guess the emergency pipes will only be as big as the bulkhead tho. I was gonna tee the siphons together for sure. Makes for more room in the sump.

Nah I didn't even bother calling to be honest. I decided to just wait it out with aquarium center, I mean I'm getting it at sale price and its literally right around the corner. Rather not drive 45mins or more ya know? And on top of that pay an extra $100-200

Wait aquarium care center? Trop is right across the street. Trop has been around for so long that they get tanks dirt cheap from royal at prices no other store can get. There is no way ACC is getting you that tank cheaper.

In blackwood, there is a LFS that is called aquarium center. Not ACC.

So I decided to do a lil maintenance tonight and came to realize my GFO feed line was completely clogged. This has only been set up for a lil over a month and it was already clogged. Anybody have any tips on how to avoid this or should I just make it a routine thing now?

On my last tank, I had a separate pump for my reactor so it was a short line from pump to reactor, never had any clogging issues.

I don't understand how GFO could get into the feed line. Water flowing through should keep it clean even from salt creep.

Yeah that's what I don't understand either. If anything, the output side should get clogged.

May have answered my own question though. From manifold to reactor, my line has to climb up a little bit, not much but it does have to go up, think that could be the reason?

My manifold was about 18" above my pump then about another 12" up to the reactor. Never seem any clogging in or out. Is it possible calcium carbonate.

No way. My feed line goes up from the middle of the sump to the top of the stand. Did you over pack the reactor? What reactor are you using? Is there adequate flow?

Its a BRS one. I usually only fill up about half way and it has as much flow as it can handle, I mean I obviously tinker with it to allow the media to barely tumble so I know its not a flow issue. The reactor insert tube thing is fairly new as well as my other one cracked so I know that's not clogged.

Is it a possibility bc of it being a new tank and there was debris from the sand and rock that maybe had something to do with it clogging?
