Dan's 150 Rebuild

My Skimmer is completely silent. Slight hum but nothing serious. I hear water over the skimmer easilly. What i like about my skimmer its a hybrid cone. so it dosen't suffer from small water fluctuations like most cones. It also does not overflow when I feed....regardless of what I feed.

Hmm I'm deciding between a few. All around the same price. Just about the same footprint. All of em are shorter than my reef octopus so that's a plus.

The bubble magus Hero skimmer is rated higher but it looks bulkier than the Skimz skimmer. I really like the design of the Skimz but have never really heard anything about em. The SWC 230 is a little bit bigger than the skimmer I have now and more expensive so that one might not work out for me.

The sm201 is fine it uses a 5000 pump that has no issues at all. The sk201 however uses the edan 2800 pump. Out of all their pumps, the 5000 is the best. Its quiet and runs perfectly. So with that being said the sm201 is a great skimmer and no need to wait on getting one. Compares to the sro 3000ss model

And if you noticed.

A lot of WarnerMarine Skimmers are basically re-branded SKIMZ skimmers. I've seen this multiple places already including the last MACNA. I belive Mr.Saltwater did a review over at their booth. Skimz Skimmers are using my good pookie bear Brando's words..

Sexay... with a side of Ayyy

I think the 160 monster might be on the small size for your tank given the fish that you are looking to keep. I'd consider bumping to the next size up. As already mentioned the Warner skimmers were made by Skimz. I had a Warner MF201 on my 120 and traded some emails with John Warner when I bought it. He indicated that the sweet spot for the 201 was around 180 gallons. I ended up going with a Skimz when I upgraded and am happy with it.

Alright well than maybe I'll consider bumping up to the next size. Won't be able to buy it today tho. Had to go have an eye exam done and needed new glasses. Whopping $220 spent there puts the brakes on buying a new skimmer for sure lol

Shop online for glasses using your prescription, I paid less than 40 bucks for mine with all the bells and whistles.

Update on my fish. Everyone seems to be ICH free, at least physically. No more white specks on anyone. Everyone is eating well and out and about. I feel bad that I have to leave the lights off on em for so long.

I plan on doing a 25% water change on Tuesday night and then Wednesday morning, doing a second treatment.
