Dan's 150 Rebuild

What is the reason you started using pellets. Why do you want them?
Bc I thought GFO wasn't really doing the job for me so I decided to give pellets a try. I guess it was doing a better job than pellets tho. Should I turn off the pellets for a few days and see if things get better?

I would have to think that it would take more than a couple of days for it to get better. What were the issues with GFO that made you switch to the pellets?

It always clumped up on me even with little tumble so I had to replace it like every 1-2 weeks. Got too expensive and my phos were still present.

do not turn off flow to the biopellet reactors then turn it back on after a few days, all that bacteria will die. if you turn the reactor off for a few days dump the pellets in there!

I'm gonna leave em on for now. What other problems have people come across because of pellets? Bc I have a few things going on but not sure if they're related. I have cyano on certain rocks. Also when I went lights out for 2 days, I developed a lot of stringy algae(I'm guessing) on the glass, rocks, and powerheads. I tried getting a lot of it off but its still there. Not sure if that's related.

I ran pellets for a short time, the only thing I noticed with them was the cyano. I personally am running gfo + carbon now as opposed to pellets. Some people have luck with them, others don't unfortunately.

Its gonna stink if I have to take them off. I'll have to redo a portion of my manifold to make it fit another reactor :/ its always something with these tanks lol

You don't seem to have larger fish with the exception of the triggers and tang. Have you tried using something else other than Gfo such as phos gaurd? It seems like your pellets aren't helping much.

Even at that, my triggers are only 3 inches and my yellow tang is maybe 4-5in.

I've never tried phosguard. Pellets have been up for about 2 months now I think. Still adding pellets, almost up to 1000ml in the reactor now and still have a decent amount of po4.

Maybe you shouldn't be adding so much. Seems like it hasn't fully established.
Even tho my po4 keeps going up? I've added about 900ml over a 2 month span. Not sure I can go any slower without it becoming a real problem for my corals.

What's phosguard? Is that pellets too?

Ok so..cut the bio pellets in half, and use Gfo. Don't use too much use less than you would to reduce clumping.
Well instead of me jumping right to GFO(since I'll have to buy media and a new reactor) can I just buy phosguard and try that instead of pellets?

Phos gaurd is strong. It's for removing phos so it's that or Gfo. If you use it, use less than the recommended amount. I wouldn't cut off the pellets at once. It's like a steroid/drug. You can't go cold turkey, you need to slowly get off of it. Which is why I said cut the pellets in half.
