Here's my Big Office System

Re: Here's my 120

Thanks Mike

I think is cause I always post first and then say ... hmmmmm, that one would have made a good contender for POTM :D

Re: Here's my 120

The anthias seem to be doing OK in QT. Although they seem interested and hungry, and they are eating, but not quite as vigorously as I'd like.

To make them more at ease, I've moved the three stripe damsels into a small CPR HOT fuge I keep just for such issues (they are headed to the prop system or a trigger tank if they don't behave), I also sequestered the Flame angel (also in QT) in a clear gallon jug (that a PH pumps water through). Maybe they'll be less cautious about rising to the surface to eat.

Still can't get a pic, maybe today when I go to the office to feed the tanks.

Re: Here's my 120

Welp, went to the office to feed the tanks, ... and I lost two of the anthias overnight! Ugh!!! :-\

I haven't lost a fish in QT since my efforts to introduce a heniocus butterfly. I am really pretty suprized, I thought they were doing OK. The remaining one is eating with gusto, so I am hopeful it will be OK and I'll Keep an eye out for more.

Just another reefing moment where you need to put your dark glasses on I suppose ... ::)

Re: Here's my 120

Somethimes, a reefer just can't catch a break!

The final anthias was gone this morning so my first effort at adding anthias, something I have strived for since filling an SW tank is offically, a washout. :-\

To top it off, when my lights popped on today, my recently re-introduced deresa opened, as it usually does, and the pesky Blue Stripped Rabbit headed striaght for it and planted his raspy lips on the mante and gave a huge tug!

THAT'S IT!

The BSR is a great maintenance fish, just beautiful, and gets along well with others, but the zoo eating and clam nipping are too much, he's bound for a FOWLR. Any body want him? ???

Needless to say ... The BSR is in QT ::)

Re: Here's my 120

Sorry about your fish problems. Just want to say thanks though, you give great details that get glossed over by others, good and bad. Your tank is beautiful to boot.

Hey Bax,
Sorry to hear about your problems. I haven't had much luck with anthias either. Maybe in the new tank.

Do you have a picture of the Blue Striped Rabbitfish? And how much would you want for him?

Erna

JRWOHLER

Thanks!

Perhaps a better name for this thread would be "My Office 120 ... The Good, The Bad, and the very ugly" ;D

Hey, the truth will set us free .... and it's the only way we learn.

Erna

Here is a poor pic of The BSR. This does not do him justice ... a very attractive rabbit fish IMO. ...

I got him from another reefer because he was eating his shrooms. I don't have or want shrooms so it was worth the risk... He ate my zoos, so I pulled those.

He was very small when I got him & I figured he was just young, so he tasted pretty much everything, once. The only thing I know he has ever eaten is the zoos & shrooms, and now ... the clam nipping ::) On the plus side, this bugger eats almost every type of including bubble algae as though he'll never see algae again!

I want him to go to at least a 120 so your 150 FOWLR would be great! I bought him for $20, so you can have him for $20. If I were in a position to do a FOWLR I'd keep him for sure :)

Re: Here's my 120

Bax,
I will take the rabbitfish, it was on my wish list for my FOWLR tank. Either that or the Red Sea Starry rabbitfish. And since you posted about your Blue Striped Rabbitfish, I am going to take it as a sign. ;)

Let me know when I can pick it up.

Thanks,
Erna

Re: Here's my 120

Erna

I'd be thrilled to see him go to you, I know you'll take good care he's a great fish, just not a great reef fish.

...Live and learn.

Remember he is a venemous fish, I have never been stung, but you have to watch yourself when you're setting an algae clip as he is right there!

PM or post me with times that are good for you, he's at my office (I think you were here for a meeting in March) so it's catch me as you can around my 12+ hour day and I am out in the field a lot! (It pays for reefing though so I don;t complain ... college is another matter!) Worst case, I'll bring him ot the Frag Swap! He'll be fine in QT until then!

Re: Here's my 120

With the Blue Stripe Rabbit out of the display, the deresa is look'n real good. Here's some pics from today ...

the Blue Striped Rabbit fish is really pretty!! a very good catch...
;)

Bax,
your tank looks amazing! and getting even better since last meeting... i wish my tank can be about half that good.

Re: Here's my 120

Thanks David. Since the meeting, I've recovered from that Alk issue by stabilizing the Ca Rx and most recently I hooked up that big MRC skimmer I have. BIG difference there!!! The corals have really responded to this. I am very pleased, but there are still a few changes to the system to come 8)

Yeap... that is one of the good thing about this hobby... we can always TWIST some thing to make it better!! Sky is the limit...
(or i should say - our pocket is the limit!)
::)

Re: Here's my 120

Hehe ... very true.

Good thing I've already spent the money, fortunately everything's been purchased used so I've saved a ton of cash :D

Anyway, it's all stacked up all over the place, so I might as well use it!

Re: Here's my 120

Welp, over the last couple of weeks, I've been looking at all the equipment I've been collectng for the last couple of years (I could literally build an entire second system with all the gear I have collected) and wondering .... what will I do with it now? With the impending sale of my office, I am not inclined to do this 220 up grade at the moment.

However .... I am not inclined to sit and do nothing with all this cool stuff. 8)

So, I am planing to re-vamp the fish room with out punching through any walls that might tick off a new owner right off the bat. (We'll do that after he/she writes me a new lease ;) ) I'll limit everyhting to the tiny fish closet and keep the 120 as the main display for now.

That leaves me with a problem. Literally days before I found out of the listing of my building, I bought a Flame angel and put it in QT as an "insperation" to get motivated on the 220. At the time my advice to others was always to never add a second dwarf angel to a 120 with one established already. My plan was to add the Flame with my Coral Beauty to my 220. Hence the reason we so often advise others not to buy a fish for a tank you'll get "some day"! My 220 is sitting in my shop! What good is it to the Flame or CB when it's dry!!!

So, I'll follow some other advice I have freely given. I will very slowly, and methodically, introduce the Flame to the 120 and the CB.

We'll see how it goes!

Stay tuned ;D
