Sorry to hijack your thread Bax.

I'm going to go 60X26X25 3/4" with the overflow on 1 end and regular glass. I'm getting 1 1.5" drain and 2 return holes.

I highly recommend, for that size tank, getting two 1.5" drains.

I have one 700 G-H with 1.5" on my 65G (36x18x24) and I wish I went for the 1500 with two 1.5" drains. I'm really pushing the limits of the one drain and wish I had that extra drain for: 1) ability to put more GPH through the tank and 2) extra piece of mind that I'm not pushing the one drain to the max, leaving little room for error.

When the time comes to move the tank I will add another 700 G-H overflow.

I'm also interested in how the tank comes out, there is a love them/hate them, with mixed reviews out there about glasscages. Unfortunately, there seems to be more bad reviews than good ones. :(

Just my .02 cents.

And now back to our regularly scheduled program. :D

I would not hesitate to get a GC tank. Jim Roth's GC is very nice. Tom at GC is known for not being the most affible character. But they build tanks at a reasoble cost. If I were going to get a 30" deep tank it'd be a GC as you can't touch another custom sized tank for the cost.

Stopped by AO last night and paid the small difference to go with the Perfecto. Will & Ethan were able to get the Deep Blue rep to wave the 20% restocking fee! So we are moving forward. The new 150 XH should be in mid next week and we can get moving here!

None too soon, my SPS are really not happy in the holding tank. My fish and large Deresa seem to be fine though.

Hard to tell as they are hermeticaly sealed in styrofoam and plastic for insulation! :D

Well I did absolutely nothing on the system itself this weekend ... And I mean nothing!

But , now that I wasn't sick or moving a company, I did finally knock out most of the trim in the family room. And that's a huge step in the right direction!

So, after I finished painting the window trims, my wife turns to me and says .... " We really need your tank in here to pick the new furniture" And that means that I have the green light to put the hammer down! Perfect timing too as the 150 is due in to AO this week!

I'll spend evenings this week finishing more trim details, but next Saturday is all about the display stand! :applause:

I wish I could say the same about not doing anything this weekend. My body aches from the move. I forgot how heavy the rocks were in my tank. Are you building the sand yourself?

Oh I did a ton of work on the family room just nothing on the tank!

Yes I am building the stand and cabinetry myself. It's half the fun!

I'm digging hard now! With no snow storms or illnes to bog down my weekends, I should be plumbing within two weeks. Wet in three.

Awesome. LMK if you need any help, not that you cannot handle it on your own :D

Thanks guys!!!!

Got a call from AO on the way home tonight.

The Perfecto XH150 is in!!!!

Depending upon work stuff I'll load it up and bring it home either tomorrow or Thursday night. That means stand building and tank drilling this Saturday!!!!!!

Just scored a second Orphek 156 LED fixture on RC too, this one has the UV components! 8)

A question:

The tank is 48x24x30 tall

I am installing a GlassHoles 1500 gph overflow kit. The display will have access from the back via a utility closet. The left end will sit in a corner about 6-8 inches from a wall to the left.

The question is, I was leaning towards placing the GH 1500 mid left on the back. In other words not centered, not the left corner, but mid way between the two. This would give me the best access to the back glass for cleaning and maintenence of what you'll see from the front and right end of the tank. It will also provide easy access to the overflow and plumbing.

SO ... should I be placing the overflow on the left end instead?

If you think so, what's the operational advantage? Would the flow dynamics be that much better that it's worth rethinking my stand & canopy design? I'd have to hide it and still be able to access the plumbing for maintenance which is doable, but not where I was headed.

I would think you would want to (have to) offset the overflow anyway. Doesn’t the tank have a brace right in the middle? If so, you would have to offset the overflow.

Bottom line, I don’t think it really matters which option you go with. We are not talking highly engineered water flow stuff…..we are talking a system to transport water down to your sump while at the same time doing a little surface skimming. With both locations, and properly placed PH’s, I think you’ll meet those needs. So pick the one that works best for you as far as maintenance and/or aesthetics.

EDIT TO ADD: A four foot, 100 gallon tank I use to have had a factory installed offset overflow:

Teah, after thinking about it throughout the day, I'm gonna leave it on the back. And, yes there's a center brace on the Perfecto so that is another driver of the offset to the left.

But, I'm hopping to keep surface flow pegged at what ever the GH 1500 will handle.

In general If all return pumps and PHs a firing all at 100% at once (which does not really happen) I like o design for 65 x turn over as internal flow as a minimum.

One possible issue with picking up the tank, on the way into work a herd of deer scrambled across Rt 23 causing a hard breaking situation that resulted in a Jeep Liberty parking in the rear of my pick up! It is "drivable" but I'll have to take a crow bar to it tonight to see if I can drop the tailgate all teh way for loading.

Bax if not let me know I can hook you up with enterprise for a cargo van for a day so you can get the tank. I pm'd you regarding the light too :p

The van would probably $50 or so and if you have a commericial policy you don't need their coverage. If not it'd be $50 + $16.99 for their collision coverage (if anything happens to the truck you give them the keys and walk away.) It would be per day, but if you pick the van up on a saturday at 9 am when they open and return it by noon it is 1 day or even friday in am and return by 6pm. Just let me know!

Thanks bud! We spent some time today shaping up the left rear corner that suffered the impact. Once I stop at a Napa and pick up the correct bulb I'll be fne to drive right up till it's time to drop it at the body shop. And ... pick up my tank TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
