Work has been just crazy! But, I've been working diligently on the stand and canopy. You may recall the structural stand that will actually support the DT is done. The covering pieces are all cut out and I'm nearly done staining the stand portion. I'd normally like to stain everything at once, but I just dont have the layout space for the wet pieces while staining. I'm a bit anal about finishing a piece of wood, my father instilled wood working prinicples in me as a little guy when I'd sit and watch him build projects. A furniture grade finish is all about patients. Should have the base assembled this weekend around the structural portion of the stand, and that's a critical point as then I can set the DT in place FINALLY!!!!
I still have to stain the canopy pieces and make some minor tweeks to the light support within, but I think I'm set on a clear path in that regard. And that won't stop me from working on plumbing in the DT.
The holding tank is really doing well and the corals that remain are coloring up and growing.
The lights will be 2x Orephek 156 LEDs and a Kessil A150. I will mount an LA mini relfector in there as well to hold a single 400 watt SE ReefLux on a CoralVu ballast, this will only run seasonally when heat is a non-issue, cause SPS still like a taste of MH every now and then!
I picked up another MP40 so I'll have 2x MP-40s an MP-20 and 2x Tunze 6100s on a multi controller in the DT. Can you say flow!
I still have not picked up solvent to weld up the sump and as a result I have yet to run the SRO 3000 Ext that sits in the corner laughing at me!
Finallly got to get over to ACME Plastics to pick up WO3 & WO4. And, of course! They no longer sell applicators or acrylic sheets smaller than 8 x 4!!!
So I have the stand skinned and ready to put the tank on it. My nephew came over and although there was talk of moving the tank it seems we focused on tossing back a few potent IPAs and a single malt or two while enjoying a live Furthur braodcast on Sirius radio and a cigar and as a result, the tank remains in my garage. We did think about though!
It was for the best I think and he promissed to stop by one night this week and we'll set the 150 in place. FINALLY!
bax - late to the thread but the 6100s...you know the hockey puck transformer is big right like if you put a soda can against it is much wider....the 6000s hockey puck fit perfectly like a coaster for a 12 oz soda can. But both will say "6100" on the box.
Yes the tranformers are quite different in size. I have several of both. I plan on using 2x 6100 on a multi controler along with the 2 x MP40s and an MP20 to start.
I time I hope to upgrade to the MPs with new Tunzes or we'll see if some new product comes along by then.
Here's the stand and canopy all stained up. I still need to finish the doors but they are on track to get done next week.
The tank is in the house! It is still strapped to a hand cart, but it's in the house. Now, my wife will be recruiting the nephews to help lift it up on the stand!!!
It's poplar with a base coat of red oak stain to darked it then I change to a cherry GEL stain five coats all hand rubbed. The poplar has that nice tight grain with a lot of character. It's really beautiful to stain.
My nephew and daughter's BF helped me get the tank up on the stand.
My wife is really getting excited now that she can really see where it's all going. She was the one who got my nephew over to help with getting th etank on the stand!
I'm just making sure there are no placement issues. I tweek a 1/4" here and there. Once I start filling it with RODI water ... THAT's IT!!!
Doors are in the works then there will be more trim to cut, fit, and stain. The last piece of the stand puzzle will be a slab of polished rock for the drink ledge. We are waiting till th eend to go and pic that out but we need to do it soon.
I also need to get crackin on welding up the acrylic stands for the rock work and the sump.
All new furniture for the room is on order too. I've been doing this room over a little bit here and there for three loooong years now. The end is in sight!
There was method to my madness there Jeff! i knew she'd never allow it to sit there long. Nearly broke my back hauling it up the slope of my front lawn to get it in there! Well worth it!
Wow that is some thick plexi on the sump. Is that 1/2"? It looks like the divider at a bank. Are you expecting gunfire?
Nice rock rack too, I am a huge fan of that idea.
