I use to be a rinser until I read THIS from Dr. Randy. You don't need to read the whole thing...just the section titled, "Rinsing Food and the Effect on Phosphate."

Good idea Matt. I would suggest rinsing the strainer in clean fresh water after every use, and drying well. It's SS, but can still rust with prolonged exposure to saltwater.

I have been running it under the sink to get all the sw and food off. I should probably do a better job drying it off

Matt, phenomenal job! I've never seen mitered steps before....I'm liking it! Just not sure how you are supporting that second piece of Trex???

The only problem I see with you completing the porch is that the wife will now have some other job for you.

Paul, I stopped by Matt's last night and it seems you are correct... the kitchen is the next project on the list. :(

I saw his handy work in person though and it looked fantastic so I can understand why she would want him to do more stuff!

Thanks everybody for the compliments!

We got the house as an estate sale and it was a "fixer upper" so we have been chipping away at it. The next is the kitchen. We are going to take out a wall and make two rooms into one. We have a back room that is kind of a waste. This is where my tank and desk are. So we will make it an eat in kitchen and put a sliding glass door. this project i may need to get somebody to take the wall down a do the rest. It used to be the back of the house so its load bearing.

My wife thought i was crazy that i spent the amount of time to be able to mitre those steps. i don't like seeing the unfinished ends of composite wood. I didn't take any pictures while I was doing it but i hat to put horizontal supports between the stringers and vertical supports to support the horizontal supports. then when pit the trex down I had something to anchor it to. i first used finishing nails and silicon to get it to hold so yo didn't see screw holes. i wasn't happy with how safe it was so i had to put screws in it but i tried to hide them the best i could under the railing. I am going to see if i can find some material to fill the holes

I will say that i enjoyed every second of building the back deck. Not so much with this one...

I am just glad its done, and you will all be safe next month at the meeting!
