Nothing gets by you Paul,
Tank holds water :)
I have a little problem. The new overflow didn't come with a drilling template. I can lay out the holes just fine but I'm a little perplexed on how high I should set the weir. I know water will flow over the cutouts but how high will it usually run over the bottom of the teeth.

No it's that ghost overflow I posted earlier. It has 2- 1.5" holes in the tank

By slow or increasing the return control valve, I can raise or lower the water level give or take 1/2 inch up or down.

On my built in weir, the water is going through at the 3/4 mark on the teeth. The top of the weir is about a 1/4 inch from the top of the tank. This keep the water level about an inch from the top overall. By slowing or increasing the return control valve, I can raise or lower the water level give or take 1/2 inch up or down.

PS...I see a 180 in the pictures...you really let me down...lol

When I did my drilling for the 20g I had I placed the box right under the rim of the tank. Then used a pump that would not over power it. If you get to powerful of a pump just do as mark said cut flow to lower the level. One thing your gonna regret is having set set the overflow to low and seeing a water line all the time

+1 This is exactly how Glass-Holes instructs you on installation of their overflow....right up to the plastic trim. Also, I would definitely make a drilling guide out of scrape plexi/plywood/MDF or whatever you have laying around.

I have overflow envy now.

The water level (above the bottom of the teeth) is determined by the amount of flow. In mine the water level covers 1/3 of the teeth. I only run about 400gph and I have a long weir. I think the water level should not be over 1/2 of the height of the teeth otherwise you have too much flow for the overflow to handle. So maybe shoot for that.

You can always get a used tank and try it out first with the amount of flow you plan to use. Very few people have this overflow so it will be difficult to get first hand info.

Looking good rob! With the 3 holes in the external box will you be running the bean animal overflow?

No Kev I think I will run Herbie the 3rd hole will be a complete pass through for the wires for the light fixture. The bulkheads are 1.5" and one and the emergency should provide enough for my target of 1200 gph.

Yes Paul I agree I will be making a drilling guide out of hardboard or plexiglass

Rob, I'm liking that overflow.....it's now my favority after the Glass-Holes. I really like the very small footprint inside the tank. Still don't understand those behemoth corner overflows that are so typical in off the shelf tanks. Just too big.

I also like the view of the garage through the bottom of the tank. It looks like a sepia toned photogragh of Geppetto's workshop from 200 years ago.
