Zippys tank

Pete, looking good. I like that appearance of the corals floating in the tank…..or, a still shot of them raining down. So how are you doing that…..with monofilament (ala Ken Nedimyer)? Are you giving Ken’s system of suspended corals for maximum growth a test run in your tank?

Thanks Paul, they are actually magnets. I originally got from k&j magnets.com. These are encased in plastic quite durable and have used them with no issues for well over a year and a half now. Even with the thickness of the glass the have quite a bit of pull. But I guess the do look like they are floating. Mostly digitatas, hardy and like I said I needed a coral visual fix.

And I thought you were going to be the first club member to try Ken Nedimyer's hanging coral methods. He had found that hanging corals grew faster then ones that were mounted:

This is the method he now uses in his coral nursery in FLA.

Was looking at my 55gal. It will be sad to tear it down.....wife is ecstatic for it to be gone.
image.jpg sorry for coraline on front glass. Can't scrape without trashing corals
image.jpg Paul you can see on the right the corals on the side are mounted on magnets from k&j magnets. These plastic encased ones have @9lbs of pull weight and the smaller ones @3 lbs. they work great and in use for almost 2 years now.
image.jpg here is my pearl berry I got from Sunny a year and a half ago. For some reason this thing grows great in my system.
image.jpg this is supposed to be a ponape birds nest. I got this as a small frag from brian(fish brain). But I think it's a purple polyp birds nest. Still nice and now the size of a grapefruit.
image.jpg this so red dragon I got from Darren
Sat June at the swap. It is one hardy little fellow and has started to take off. Mine is in higher light and is lighter in color.

Great idea. More spots to frag off pieces!

image.jpg got this favia as only 3 mouths. A fantastic green and a favorite of mine.

image.jpg sorry for the coraline...can't reach it. Got these Rastas from Jgraz as 6 polyps now too many to count. Not sure who will eventually win here. But they are happy.

Reef breeders LEDs. The Sunny d's are at the bottom 1/3 of the tank. Almost perpendicular to the light with good flow.

Hi Pete - Very excited to read about your new build :) if you'll be parting with any Rastas I'll be glad to buy some, maybe help defray your new tank costs a bit. Hope all is well.

It must be your lighting turning the Ponape pink. It sure didn't look like that in my tank. o_O

Last pic of it before I lost it.

EDIT: This coral did very well in the lower half of my tank. It was about 6"-8" up from the bottom of the 120. It looks like from your picture, it is up high near your lights?

Your probably right Brian. I have several accidental frags and I found flow makes a big difference in form too. Still like it and you will have to reclaim some when your ready

So after an ich outbreak in my new 120dt with transferring established fish I got my UV hooked up tonight. It was pretty painless, just wish the made a hanging bracket so I wouldn't have to lay it next to the refugium.

On a positive note I got some grape catalpa macro and it's taking off quite nicely. The pods seem to like it.

Pete, I can't tell the size of the UV, but I'd consider two larger conduit clamps with SS screws.....secure it to the back or top of wherever it is.

The glorified PVC pipe is a 2 inch diameter. I like that but would have to unscrew for maintinence. I was thinking of getting hard core Velcro from HD and screwing g it in place then using the rest as a wrap. This way I can remove it at will for cleaning of the chamber. For now it works....I will let some REM ponder the rest
