I started my npx bioplastics fluidized reactor today. Nitrates around. 10 right now. Starting off with half of the amount recommended. Will check back in a month or so to report if this is successful. I’m still dosing dinoX, and the tank looks pretty good.

Fed more, cut back water changes, (I was doing quite a lot of them). And removed gfo from reactor.

Well my po4 is close to 0. My nitrates were previously lower, but tried to raise nutrients on the false presumption, that Dino’s exist due to low nutrients. Well Dino’s can exist in low nutrients, but they can also live in higher nutrients as well. Simply dirtying up your water will not kill...

That looks way better. My dinox has performed well too. I’m going to do a few more doses, to make sure it’s gone. I’m also starting a new reactor for denitrate media, bc although my phosphates are in check, my nitrates tend to be a little high. (5 to 10).

    That’s a good price, for a combo.

After 3 doses of dinoX, (tonight will be dose 4) there is a noticeable decrease is the Dino’s. Live stock is all fine. We’ll see what happens.

I’m trying DinoX. I’m on my second dose. So far so good. To early to tell, but coral looks slightly better, and the Dino’s seem to be breaking up a little.

I just picked up 2 of them a few weeks ago at absolutely fish. There being captive bred now. I’m not sure if mine are captive bred or not, but they seem pretty well addapted to aquarium life. It was there last 2, but they normally have them available. Not the cheepest place to get them, but I’ve...

Mmmm. I’m working on it. The condition of some of my coral right now is not great. I think I would loose lose a few if I did a prolonged blackout. There are some areas of my tank that the Dino’s seem to be disappearing from. I hope that trend continues.

Most simple system with long term success.

Im being a little random, but I am curious if anyone has had long term success, with minimal investment of equipment. I would like to here about the most minimalistic tanks that have been running successfully for 18 months+, with fish, invertebrates, and at least soft corals.

Possibly, but the Dino’s are on the coral plugs too. The Dino’s might survive quarantine and then right back in the tank. I would also have to find a tank, , frag racks, power heads, etc, none of wich I have, and then I don’t have much space to set it up. Maybe in the summer when the basement...

Looks good. I’m going to have to do it too.I wish my corral were in better shape. I concerned they won’t survive the blackout.

Yea. I don’t syphon my sand bed. I only have problems with my rock. My sand is clean, ever since I got a conch. It’s so fine grained, that I end up sucking a lot of the sand out of the tank when I try to syphon. When I scrub and blast the rocks, my filter sock cloggs up fast, and I can get it...

I like your upfront approach. The blackout I was referring to was 3 day, not 3 week. I guess with an aggressive pest, you need aggressive treatment. I’ll get some cardboard and wrap the tank.

I’d have to see more evidence, before I invest in a co2 scrubber. There is no guarantee that raising ph beyond 8.5 will actually cause Dino’s to die.

    Dynoflagellates

Hmm. I’ll be curious to see how that works. Keep me posted. I have been looking for a way to safely raise ph, but it seems to always buffer back to 8.2. I definitely don’t want to tear it down. I definitely don’t want to give up.

Doing a light blackout doesn’t work. It just grows back when the lights are back on. Removing nutrients doesn’t work. The live stock make more, and it starts to grow again. Adding macro won’t work. The Dino’s outcompetes the macro. Adding cuc doesn’t work. Nothing eats the stuff. It seems there...

In that case, you might not need it. I might end up with the same result. Time will tell.
