The gasket always goes on the flange side. Doesn't make a difference where the water is. Silicone can make more problems than it fixes.

Gfo can be fully saturated in 24 hours. I would check phosphate with a meter. Then check effluent of the reactor. Replace when equilibrium is met. Turning the lights off will not solve the problem unless you are removing the nutrients.

I find it easier to do left to right first, then make small adjustments to get the front to back correct.

Its close, but throw some shims under the stand and get it right. Paul, trims can be way off. Always level the bottom glass and then check the sides for plumb. If your tempered bottom is warped by a 1/4 inch get a new tank. If it is rimless you can level the top, but always take the other 2...

I would have to agree, a fish group buy would be a logistical nightmare. You would need to find 2 stores that work with the same vendor, and be willing to make decisions fast as availability quickly changes. Second you would need to coordinate every member to meet at the store of their choice...
