Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Thanks for hosting another great meeting, Bax. It was nice to be able to see your tank in person. I was really impressed with the setup behind the wall. Talk about using every square inch of space!
Hopefully you and Sarah will make it to some more meetings.
That's a great idea! I'd say a Helfrichi is good representative of what it could morph into! Good luck with it, maybe you'll have different results and you won't have to worry about it.
Sadly, I think it is. I've never heard of anyone having long term success with them. It's too bad because they're really cool looking.
Welcome back, BTW. We haven't seen you around in a while.
I guess I should have clarified that it's 9 SCOOPS not cups. The measuring cup is one of THESE. I looks like each full scoop is a little more than 2 cups which is pretty close to your 20.
I just checked it out. It says that I would need over 18#'s of salt to get a 55g drum up to 1.025. That seems high to me but I'm not sure. I usually add 9 measuring cups to get in the ballpark. I guess I need to weigh a cup full to see what it is. As I think about it though, it's gotta be close...
I'll never forget you looking around DC and saying "We can do this". At the time I thought "This guys is nuts!" Who would have known you were Nostradamus!
Congrats and thanks to all of the Officers who donate so much of their time and talent to make this possible!
I use diamond point bits in my dremel. The two I've used are the ones on the right side of the drawing on THIS PAGE.
The process I used was pretty straightforward. I first marked the outline of the hole with a Sharpie marker. Then a made a water dam out of duct tape and filled it with water...
Instead of throttling down a pump, which I don't really recommend, you could come out of the pump and into a T. Have one leg of the T go to your display tank and the other one return back to your sump. Put a ball valve on the leg going to the sump and use it to control the excess flow. If you...
Just out of curiousity, wouldn't a 1.5" Wye be better than a Tee? It seems to me that the flow is more linear with the Wye, which would minimize the reduction in the flow. Like I said, I'm just curious. I use Wye's everywhere and was just wondering if it's necessary.
Looks good. I like the black sand. I also like the "insta-reef" approach. I've done that for a couple nanos. There's something kind of cool about buying a tank one day and having an active reef the next!
Good luck with it and keep the pics coming.
We're using a Sequence 5800. It's an external pump that does 5800gph at 0'. It's a great pump. It's really quiet and dependable. The manufacturer has very good customer service too.
I've cut a few holes with a dremel. The key is to always remember what the Jamaican's say: No Pressure, No Problem! On a 10g tank, you definitely have to let the bit do the work. Go really slowly and don't apply any pressure. It'll cut but if you rush it, it's gonna crack.
Meetings are great social events which aren't restricted to club members or forum users - quite the contrary. We encourage spouses, significant others, friends and children to attend. We generally get a large turnout, frequently in the 70 to 100 people range.
The agenda of the meeting is...
It was nice seeing you there today, Pete. Good luck with the fish you picked up.
Here's a quick review of the store from my perspective. Overall, it's a very nice store and one I'd recommend checking out if you get the chance. Feng has done a great job of maximizing his use of space and has a...
They're a sponsor of the club and get great feedback from everyone that goes there.
There are a bunch of threads around here that give more detail about the store. I've never been there but I think we're going to give it a shot tomorrow.
That's great Bill. I'm glad you didn't give up on the idea of a 180. If I'm free. I'll be there to help out. Just let me know the details when you figure them out.
Sorry, I didn't mean that you *wanted* to restrict the flow. What I meant was you were referring to the side that feeds the pump. Unfortunately, I do think the bushing will restrict your infeed flow.
You might be able to go with a siphon feed over the rim of the sump using larger diameter...
