I would strongly recommend drilling the tank with some form of overflow and adding a 10 gallon sump.
My first tank I setup was a regular 29 and I did HOB, it wasn't long before I realized I should have gone with an overflow. My 40B that was suspose to be temparary setup, I did as a HOB but...
Welcome to the nano world! :::evil laugh::: For the ATO, if I was able to shoe horn a JBJ ATO in my BC8 I'm sure you will be able to make something work in your Max. I also just did an ATO using my RKL on my 20L. If you need a hand setting it up let me know. Did I also mention I did a DIY LED on...
The last two tanks I set up i just mixed the water right in the tank. I filled the tank up with RO/DI water and added a heater and powerhead. When water was up to temp, I then add salt untill it was at the right SG. Waited 24 hours and rechecked salinity. I Then rinsed the sand in new saltwater...
I would put the rocks in a 5 gallon bucket with fresh saltwater a heater and powerhead, wait a week and test for ammonia. If ammonia tests at 0, back to the tank, otherwise you will have to cure the rock.

First, sump I did last week that I did a wet test on yesterday
I had 1/4" glass custom cut at the glass shop next to Redsand. One is 6" tall and two are 8" tall.
The...

Welcome! :D
If you haven't done so yet make sure you start a tale of the tank thread where you can either tell us about your current setup, or plans for your future setup.
Dustin, There are a few Nano's on here, I have a BioCube8 myself. There are a few mods you should do, but...
If you are going to run bio pellets, it is not recomended to use phosban with them. You can starve the bacteria and not get the full benefit of the pellets. That will eliminate one reactor and less loss from your pump.
What you see in that picture is not something that is on the mushroom, but rather something inside the mushroom. That squiggly white stuff is the defensive/digestive system of the mushroom. I can't remember what that is called but Mushrooms will "spill their guts" when they feel threatened...
You would first need to determine how much media you need for your system and then determine what size reactor you will need. My systems are small @ 40 and 65 gallons so I don't need a big reactor.
I would recommend keeping the bio pellets in a separate reactor since the service live of the...
