Right now my tanks are out getting hydro'd and my wet suit is shot. They said my tanks would be another 2 weeks or so and I'd need to rent a wet suit. Unfortunately, my weekends are pretty booked up between now and mid-August.
I'm pretty sure I did a night dive there once. It was pretty cool, and you're right the walk isn't so bad. If I remember correctly, you have to try to be there around slack tide otherwise the current can be a bit strong.
When are you thinking about doing this?
Where do you do your beach dives from? I used to dive the twin wrecks in Long Branch but the convent right in front of the beach access point started cracking down on divers cutting through their property. I also did the wreck off of the Manasquan inlet, but holy cow was that a long walk...
I'm a diver. What do have in mind for saving the fish? How do you go about it? Do you have your own boat, or do you charter a boat, or do beach dives?
Let me know.
Our blue/green chromis aren't aggresive at all. Not to each other nor to other fish. We started with 1, then right after that added 2 more and they all got along fine. A few months later I bought 5 more (I think). Of those, one came in looking pretty bad and died the next day. Another got sucked...
Seems like a bit of a long run for a Mag 9.5. You may not get enough flow due to head loss over that distance. You can give it a shot and if you're not getting enough flow, you can always swap out the 9.5 impeller with one from a larger size. I think an 18 may fit but you'd have to check...
I'd also like to thank everyone who came to our meeting. It was really great having everyone over. I know we all (kids included) had a great time.
I'd like to apologize to anyone that I walked away from in mid-conversation. I was pulled in a number of different directions and then next thing I...
No, you don't need a sump. A lot of people run without them and do well. As you move down the road it may be something to think about, but for now you should be fine.
Really, you should make a list of all of the "need to do's" and "want to do's" and then prioritize them accordingly. If you go...
Hey Guy, Like Bill said, you can't really do a two pump setup for a sump. There is no way you'd be able to consistenly match the flow out of each of the pumps and in no time one would be out pacing the other. Next thing you know . . . . flood!
The easiest way to go is to use an overflow box. ...
Hey Guy,
Like Brian said, you're getting a lot of good advice. Stick with it and take it slow! When your tank really starts to look like garbage with brown sludge all over everything, you're getting close ;D
To answer one of your questions, a 10 gallon sump should be fine. I'm using a 10g...
Hey Guy, Welcome to the club! We have meetings every month that are a great way to meet other reefers, see other set-ups and get tons of answers to questions. The next meeting is in Jackson (right near Great Adventure) on June 25. If you're free, bring the family and stop on by. There should be...
I've found my GSP's to very "shy" too. If I do anything to disturb them, they close up and stay that way for a lot longer than anything else in the tank. I'm not sure they've ever gone 5 days, but I do know that they take longer than most to open up (in my system, anyway).
Cool, Jesse. If you come you can see some of your drums in action!
And Brian, I'm up for the cannonball competition. Heck, I'm shaped enough like one! ;D
The 65 in my bedroom got up to 86-87 degrees too. I turned on our AC and it's dropped back down to 80-81. The odd thing is, it didn't really feel like the room was getting that hot, but must have. I think I'm still going to pick up a clip on fan if I can find one (no luck at the Depot, Target or...
What you're seeing is a natural part of the cycle process. It's diatom algae and if you're seeing this, you are not completely through cycling your tank.
Just ride it out. It lasts about two weeks and really makes the tank look lousy. But then all of sudden it starts to go away and everything...
Check the last post in this thread. It may help out (I don't have the problem, so I can't test it):

I have a 65g AGA non-reef ready and a 120g Oceanic reef-ready. Honestly, I don't have a preference of one over the other. The RR component of the Oceanic is very nice. I'm using an over flow box on the 65, but knowing what I know now about drilling tanks, I may have gone a different route (it's...
