LOL. Hey, I literally copied as much as I could from Merv's old 75. ;D Nothing wrong with that - as long as it works for you, right?

WOAH, MY SPINE TINGLED WHEN I READ THAT, then I looked around and blushed!

Merv, thank you so much, but please remember that you have always been my inspiration.

Joe, I'm enjoying the tank tremendously, thank you again.

I might have missed this - but what kind of skimmer (octopus?) is that and how do you like it?

by the way - your progress is amazing! keep posting those fabulous pics!

Thank you Bax and Phil. :)

Phil, the skimmer is the Octopus PRO 300S, and I love it. Super easy to adjust, very effective, and a valve in the collection cup allows me to drain it without having to disassemble anything.

I don't think I ever shared this picture. It was the first fish added to the 180 (before we switched everyone else).

We had quite a scare last night. A second or so after the lights went off we heard a "thug" and "flop". I just knew someone had jumped out. Good thing I left enough room in the back of the tank, because a quick look with the flashlight revealed my biggest fairy wrasse had hit the ground. I was SO upset. Took me a little while to get to him because he was in the middle, behind the tank. I thought for sure he was going to be a goner, especially when I put him back in the water, he merely floated to the bottom - upside down. My lights aren't on yet this morning, so please keep your fingers crossed that he'll be ok. I love that fish.

Today we're gonna place plastic rabbit fencing on the open back side of the canopy to prevent this from happening again. We already had to deal with 2 fish ending up in the overflows, which is a big enough pain in the neck, but I don't want to lose any due to jumping out completely.

hey wendy hows the wrasse? i hope all is well

He is fine, thanks so much for asking. He stayed in his hideout until he smelled food. By now he's back to normal. I am so relieved because he is such a beautiful, gentle fish. :)

Thanks, Mike. Remote control diver? LOLOL.

I'm SO sad

I'm updating this with a heavy, heavy heart. I knew I had ich in my 75, as every once in a blue moon my Hippo Tang would sport a few dots. Well, the ich has come back with full force, and has claimed some lives. So far I've lost my Royal Gramma and my Lyretail Anthias - and I hope and pray the rest will pull through somehow. :'( :'(

Badly affected are my Orangeback Basslet, both my clowns, and the Starry Blenny. They are all still eating, but all look horrible. :(

Of course now I wish I had quarantined and treated all my fish BEFORE throwing them in the 180, and let the 180 be fallow for 2+ months, but it's too late now. I feel horrible about this, especially since I'm quite attached to my swimming friends. I've been soaking their food in Selcon and Garlic, and I've raised the temperature to about 80. Please keep your fingers crossed that the rest of my crew will make it.

Here are some pictures I took today:

Raising the temperature will increase the speed of the ich cycle, exposing the fish to increasing numbers more quickly. Was this recommended somewhere? I'd like to get some insight into why raising the temp would be beneficial. Raising the temp would only be desirable in a Hypo situation where they will die as they cycle rather than multiply.

I would actually suggest that you drop the temperature a couple degrees to allow the fish better oxygenation as well as slow down the reproduction cycle. That should allow the fish to recover before being overcome. That coupled with your garlic & selcon regimen (and very frequent feedings) will help the fish keep their strength while they fight.

Hang in there. Hopefully the rest will begin to recover.

Wendy sorry to hear this  :'( I also read that you should keep the lighting time down, because they said that the ich goes to the light. I'm not that sure how true that is. Hang in there I am sure it will work itself out
