My misunderstanding of the results of the Reef Chemistry calculator is actually what led me to start this thread. The results informing me of the "product required" of both the baking soda and calcium chloride said to add (x) number of tsps. I thought I needed to add (x) tsps of the two part...
Funny
mladencovic, good information. Not my thread obviously but I have a question. What is a good model in the $400 to $1000 range and where can they be purchased?
Before anyone corrects me let me correct myself. The name is Coral Banded Shrimp. I guess I glanced at the name and saw it but didn't read it. I have two peppermint shrimps that come out during feeding time and from time to time I see them out at night. I have never saw the CBS out until...
On May 14 I purchased a Coral Bandit Shrimp and added it to my tank. It immediately made a B-Line to the back of the tank and hid underneath some rocks. I thought he was dead or malnourished on many occasions as I never got to see him. I could only view his antenna's. Well after 4 months he...
I agree and I think that was the intent of the thread. It seems now it's turned into a See how much I know contest" instead of providing help or information that most users reading can use.
Ok, back to the original topic. I baked 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 cups of Arm & Hammer baking soda for 1 hour (can't remember the exact amount but it was the correct amount). I use the salifert Alk test kit. I know salifert has had problems with their test kit but their owner says the batch I have does not...
Gee, CO2, pCO2, NaHCO3, pO2, Na2CO3, H2O ???. That's a ton of information to remember. I only wanted to raise my alk levels not become a Scientist ;D. Good thread though. I will come back to it when I advance to this level in the hobby. Well above my head at this point though. Anyway after a...
The calculator as well as in your response says that this would lower the ph somewhat. I thought those with ph under 8.4 (those who want it to rise) would use the baking soda as opposed to the other method in the two part system. Why would it decrease the ph? Also, about how long should I wait...
Over the last week or so my ALK levels have tested pretty low. I am trying to find out how to raise them. Today it tested at 5.8 DKH (2.06 MEQ/L) and has tested around that value lately. I use the Salifert test kit and have been told by Salifert that there are no problems with the kit tht I have...
As Candi stated, 40 #'s of Rock from Marco Rocks will be more than you think. I'd get 40 #'s and the rest LR. Once you have it, place it in a container with SW, a Power head or pump, and place in the garage. It should be ready in a week or so.
