Congrats, Wendy. There's a really funny signature line out there that says something like "Big tanks always seem so big until you own one". You'll see, in no time you're going to be saying "Gee I wish had gone just a *little* bit bigger!" ;D
I'm not sure that the pixel burn on plasma tv's is as much of a problem with new tv's as it was with earlier generation one's. I'm pretty sure they have the ability to "fix" themselves.
When we started shopping, I was completely committed to an LCD until I started doing some research. Without...
52", Plasma, Circuit City and I absolutely love it. The picture on the HD channels is fantastic.
Keep in mind though, that buying a HD TV is a lot like getting into reefing. The cheapest thing about it is buying the TV. In order to do it justice, you'll most likely need a new receiver and the...
We use these too and they are well worth the $10. That alarm is LOUD and will definitely catch your attention. It's surprising how little water trips it, too.
I think your old desing was fine. The new one looks to be overkill. The one thing I don't like about the new design is the ball valve on the line coming from your return pump. If you want to control or limit the flow coming out of the return pump, you're better off putting a T there and then...
We're in! As a matter of fact, our tanks are in the shop being VIP'd and filled as I type this. The 24th sounds like a good day. It's Phyl's B-Day but I'm sure she wouldn't mind spending it under water!
If you use a Wye and a 45* angle instead of a T, it softens the turn on your drain line and minimizes the reduction in flow. Between that and the oversized piping it's probably a bit like a wearing a belt and suspenders but it gives me a bit more peace of mind.
I think the drawing you created looks feasible. As long as you don't restrict the flow too much and the overflows can still outpace your return pump, you should be fine. My only suggestion is that you use a Wye fitting instead of a T for the leg running to the right side of the sump. Also, go...
Here are some rough estimates for equipment I would go with. Everyone has their own preferences and will probably recommend other manufacturers or options but again this is what I'd do. Also, these prices are pretty much straight retail. You could most likely shop around and get better deals...
In that case, 48x24x24 is 120g and 72x24x24 is 180g. Both pretty good footprints IMO. I'm not a big fan of anything taller than 24". It makes lighting more expensive and harder getting to the bottom.
My preference would be something deeper (front to back) than taller (top to bottom). The bigger depth gives you a lot more aquascaping options. I'm not really sure what you're thinking in terms of large"ish" but for me the ideal tank would be something like 72Lx36Dx24H.
I'm not sure you're thinking of the same Steve or store. As far as I know, Aqua Oceans has been there since at least the mid-80's. I wasn't in to the hobby back then but a friend of mine was and I remember him talking highly of Steve. Then, in 1990, we stopped in their for the first time so I...
Well Bill, I guess in fairness, I should say that my glass is "greening" up a little quicker than it had been. I'm not sure if that's a result of the units losing their effectiveness or a function of the increased temps the tank has been running at. Either way, once the glass is cleaned, the...
