why not buy those Plastic Grass plate from home-depot (like the one they use in the mini-golf area), then "smear" their "previous belonging" on it... so they will think it is ok to go there... then use your garden hose to wash it out later...

note:
adding pods to your tank may not guarantee your Mandarin have enough food to eat, cause IF you have other fishes in the tank, it is most likely they will get to the pods before the Mandarin did.
that is why many people end up with putting the beautiful Mandarin in their sump at last.

but this could be an issue, cause all my bumblings are in the basement, and i don't go downstair often... may be i should get something to detect the flood in the basement around my water storage area instead of the timer...

that mean, you will need to check/measure how long the timer should be on to cover enough drip to fill the storage tank full... well, i guess even it would take half a day, is still better than 24 hours always on.
i will get a timer with floating swtich combination for my setup.
