    Starting Bio-Pellets

Interesting article. I've had my EcoBAK pellets going for 1-1/2 years now, but I'm still on the original 500 ml. They are smaller than when I got them, but not too much smaller. I didn't add any bacteria, was told the tank had enough. My NO3 and PO4 have tested at 0 for a while and my glass...

Dont try to catch ur Foxface when he jumps....tried it, bad idea.

I almost did the same thing a while back. Mine jumped up and I moved my hand to catch him, but he landed back in the water. I was thinking how dumb that was that I was going to catch him, but when it happens you don't think. Hope your hand is OK.

    Changing Salt

Exactly. When I switched my salt mix, I started by mixed the salt for my water changes. Of course I was only doing about 10%. Then after I ran out of the old, my changes were done with just the new.

Haven't head anything about keeping them in the dark. Mine are on my sump, but there isn't really any light on mine.

    StarFish issue

Just keep an eye on it. I believe they can regrow from legs and such, but very rare if at all in our tanks. More likely to happen in the ocean.

    Love of the hobby

I'm with you, I love the fish, but also love the inverts. Crabs, shrimp, etc. Unfortunetly, there are issues with a lot of them in reefs, or the fish we keep will eat them, etc. I love the looks of the Arrow crabs, but they're supposed to be fish eatters. I will always have BL hermits in my...

How can my Ca be high and my Alk be fine?

I've had that several times. It always seams like my alk gets depleted quicker. I wouldn't worry about either number as long as the calcium isn't precipitating, which shouldn't happen at 480. If you want to maintain the alk without causing the calcium to go up, you'll just need to use a 1...

Lookin for my first clam..a Derasa, anyone tossin' one?

I've had 4 clams total. My 1st was a Crocea that was about 4-5" at purchase. I just placed it on the sand and it did great. Then I purchased a 2" Blue Maxima and a few weeks later my tank was all cloudy. I didn't know what happened, but on closer look, it was my Crocea shooting it out. It...

Lookin for my first clam..a Derasa, anyone tossin' one?

I got my 4" Derasa from Aquarium Center last year for $40 and I believe they regularly have them. I've got it on the sand next to my Blue Maxima in my 90 under the 250 Watt MH's. It's already grown an inch or two. They also tend to have Maxima clams too, but they're usually smaller and cost...

Wienerdog's 90g attempt... I am addicted to this mess.

Yeah, I had issues with my Flame Angel nipping select corals. But my friend had one for over ten years with no issues, so good luck and hopefully yours is better. You've got a nice assortment of corals there. I would think the nem would move if it got too bad, but I've never owned one. So...

    Palau Neon Green Nepthea

I don't have that specific coral, but if it's anything like my finger leather, it should be fine just about anywhere. Just keep an eye on it (like that will be hard to do with it being new) and make sure it's opening up. Again, if it's like my leather, they can and usually will close up on...

    BRS Group Buys

Thanks George, would be appreciated. Mine are usually only around $40-50, so we'd have to get others involved to get the free shipping. But, from the sounds of it, it doesn't sound like it will be hard to do.

That's right, I forgot they delivered to our houses, so location wouldn't matter for this one.

Brown Alage in 5 yr old 30 gallon reef tank.

As downbeach said, a reactor is the best method by far for GFO. Out of curiosity from previous comments in this thread, I went home and checked my Ammonia and Nitrites. Both were clearly 0 on my API test kits. So, what ever got stirred up from the sand bed, causing the cyano, isn't detectable...

    BRS Group Buys

When I saw the title I though this thread was for a member organized group buy in the South. I really should read the folder too. I wasn't able to do the last group buy to become a "Preferred Member" because I typically order my BRS supplies end of December to early January and didn't have the...

    Starting Bio-Pellets

Personally I would run them separately. During my research prior to use, I was finding a lot of recommendations to running them independantly. Since you have a mj1200 already, all you would need to buy is a valve and maybe some hose.

    Frag swap raffle tank

Definitely agreed with the white vinegar. I used to use brushes and lots of force, so much it was a real pain. Then I read people using vinegar and wow it works great. Coraline turns to mush and wipes away with little effort. Congrates on the win. Definetely take your time with the build...

Brown Alage in 5 yr old 30 gallon reef tank.

That looks like the gunky algae (?) I get in some areas of my tank. I just blast it with a turkey baster when I see it. It was a lot worse, before I got my PO4 down. If I recall correctly, I noticed it in mine somewhere after it was 4-5 years old. It seames to be growing in areas with heavy...

    Reef Dipping

I dip all of my corals. I just use Kents Lugol Solution, no matter what type of coral it is. It was the only dip my LFS had, so I picked it up. I was having issues with my LPS, so I pulled them out and dipped them and within a week they were looking great. It worked awesome for me, so I'll...
