That said, I do have hitchhiker molusks, one of which is a 2" bivalve that has resided in our 12g since early 2009 at about .2", so here's to hoping you finally have a good hitchhiker.

Are you referring to a pair of Hawaiian flame wrasses? Or Hawaiian cleaner wrasses?
IMHO, a 45 g cube is too small for either of those fish. Cleaner wrasses have a tendency to starve to death captivity, and flame wrasses are fairy wrasses, they get to over 4". Darren has a pair of flame...

I do believe Trop may still have one suzuki anathia, we have had our guys for about 5 weeks now, they are eating well and their color is good.

I am so sorry to hear that your tank is leaking on top of everything else you have going on. What kind of tank is it, glass or acrylic? Can you see where the leak is coming from?
How long has it been up and running? Is it drilled?
I like to syphon out visible accumulated gunk, and then stirr up the sand bed to remove additional gunk. Another option in addition to a sea cucumber or a fighting conch is nacarrius snails; they don't eat detritus, but they do keep the sandbed stirred up.
I tend to agree with Matt, a longer fallow period is preferable. If you are concerned about another illness, consider setting up a quarantine system, and introducing fish after qt, or even just having a small tank, heater, and hob filter lying around. If you have a illness in your main tank...
