I think about this every time I pull some of mine apart and they squirt. It's surprising how far the liquid squirts sometimes. Hope your eye is feeling better soon.
It's hard to tell from the photos, but it looks like the ammonia is at 0.50 ppm. Did your tank go through it's cycle? I believe there shouldn't be any ammonia if the tank is cycled. Leathers do shead skin, but sometimes from stress. If there's ammonia, I'd move it back to your nano until...
Instead of using a check valve on the return line, just drill a small hole in the piping at the water level. It's called a siphon break, if kept clean and open, it keeps the line from siphoning out the tank. I had a check valve that stopped working, over time the flap just got stuck open. So...
I've been running an Eshoppes dual overflow since 2004. They are very reliable. Not hard to install, then just hang over the edge, then you plumb it down to the sump. I have a 20 gal sump with a Mag-Drive 9.5 and an SCA skimmer (Bubble Magus clone), plenty of room. I imagine you could get a...
Beautiful clam. Tank looks great. Keep an eye on that Xenia, mine likes to walk up to the light. I keep mine high, so it just goes up glass and I razor it off.
I had an algae like that a few years ago. I lasted about a year, what a PITA. I was even running GFO. I even added EcoBAK pellets. I believe I was finally able to get rid of it by changing my GFO every 3 days for a few weeks, then about once a week for a total of about a month. Now I just...
Some palys, GSP, Kenya Trees are real quick spreaders too. Xenia hasn't been an issue for me, I just keep it high up and scrape it off the glass when it walks. Leathers are an easy coral, too. Pretty much most softies that are photosynthetic are considered easier corals.
I always thought the Mag Drives were the cheap/reliable pumps. They're what I've been using (Mag 18 & 9.5) and they are great. Not sure what other pumps cost less and are reliable. Good luck.
I'll pop in for South Jersey. This store has a nice sized fish room and their selection is usually stocked well and the fish are typically healthy looking. I've had great luck with my livestock purchases for here. Their corals are just OK. Usually overpriced, but occationally they'll have a...
I used Prestone Driveway Heat years ago and it did raise and maintain the calcium level. I started having issues with my SPS & LPS about a year later, so I stopped using the heat. My issues lasted for a few years until I started using Lugol's. So, not sure if it was the Driveway Heat or not...
Just stop dosing for calcium until it drops down. Keep dosing the other two. Don't use something like kalk until the calcium comes down, because it with add both.
I believe there are some that are safe and some that are bad. I've never noticed any of mine bother any corals, but read that others have complained about having issues.
Just be careful using it in some of the auto top off setups. I use a float valve for my ATO and the kalk that forms in the end of the line would probably cause problems with the function of it. If it's just a line with a switch, it should be fine.
Mrs Wages worked great for me years ago. I...
I've got one of these guys. They actually eat the asterina stars. I've got some photos of him eating, but they're still on my camera. He goes over them and expands his red stomach and leaves just the white skeleton. I still have plenty of asterina's, so he's very slow on the removal. I...
