Right on Taz.
Yea about 9 months.I read they last 9-12 months.I just added two more of the new ice cap bulbs.I don't know that they'll last any longer.I'll just read what people that do the readings on the bulbs have to say.
I've been changing my t-5s two at a time ever 3 months.I have 6 bulbs. That's a nice thing about the t-5s you don't have to change them all at the same time.
You don't need it to go up.You just need an air break so it doesn't start a siphon. You can do what ricwilli said or put a piece of tubing(1/2" or larger) in the sump and run it high enough so it's as high as the water in the holding tank then put the air line tubing from the pump into that an...
Rise the tubing going to the sump above the water level in the holding tank.I use a 12" piece of pvc and stick the air line tube into that just an inch or two. That way there is a brake the the line.

I don't know the phone number to call but I'm sure you'll find out something over on RC.
I don't think blue light is what the narcotic unit would be looking for.Bright white lights. They also use infrared for the heat the lights put out. They also will go to the electric company and look for people using more then the normal amount.
I have the DAS EX1 and it works great.Would replace with the same if I needed to.Very easy to setup and run.$200 is a good price. It seats outside the sump (could go in sump also).Never used the other two though you hear good things about them.
I've done it on a small tank just to see if it would work. It does.I didn't use any tee or valve.

It takes a 1/4 turn for a ball valve to open and close.
It takes 3-4 full turns to open and close a gate value. So the gate value is more precise.
Mark if its not threaded then you'll have to cut and glue the value in.
You might want to buy a whole set up.I'm sure you can find a nice one right here in the for sale/trade forum. There is also a lot for good info right here on NJRC.Here's a good place to start http://www.njreefers.org/joomla/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26&board=97.0
